This is a new build and conversion of a Monogram 32 Ford Street Rod in 1:8 scale, into a 1932 Delux Roadster Model 18. I built the frame first so that the new engine and Toploader Gear Box can be fitted while under construction. A (white nylon) Flathead Basic Block Kit was purchased from TDR 1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18 Innovations. The white nylon plastic takes more work to clean up but haa it was half price. Every other part on the engine is or will be scratch built 1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18 . Weather it is out of the box or a scratch build 1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18 I strive for Quality, that state that gives me the moste satisfaction. Photos attached.

I found some used parts for V8 restoration on the INTERNET and was able to use them as an accurate example for the Exhaust Manifold model.
I was unable to find a picture of the Ford Motor Company patent plate on the INTERNET that was clear enough to copy. So I purchased one for about $6.00, photographed it, reduced it to 1:8 scale and printed it on adhesive backed sticker paper.

Great job. I'm looking forward to more of your posts.

If you don't have it, may I recommend The Early Ford V8 as Henry built it by Francis and DeAngelis.

Have acted on your recommendation to purchase "The Early Ford". Maybe it will explain why the engine right side manifold has a dip between the exhaust ports. Attachment 27131

Received the book "The Early Ford" as you recommended and, it gave the needed dimensions of the Ford battery. I found the Battery Pan Assembly measurements
in "FORD Chassis Parts and Accessories 1828-1848" a DVD made by Dave Graham. Another good source of information is www.vanpeltsales.com. 1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-p1020839-jpg

Glad you found the book helpful.

1828-1848? Sorry, I was tempted and I am weak.

Where did you find the DVD?

Ya, and I can't use spell check ether .
1929-1948 Ford Parts Book CD-ROM Green Bible plus Body...Parts Books, www.faxonautoliterature.com. I try to build my model as true to specs. as possible, given my limited ability. I also build it as my personal fantasy. When My De Luxe Roadster is finished I will climb in and drive it away. There for the paint will have a bit more shine and the wood work a bit more buff.

The new front axle is built and ready for painting. Monogram provides an I-beam for the 32 Duce kit that has a 5-inch drop. According to HOTROD.com (2014 Sept.) this Deuce "heavy" axle was produced by Ford for one year only. I distroyed mine in an attempt to reconfigure it to a 32 Stock beam, so sad. The I-beam in the attached photo is the one that I built for my Model-18, it has a 2-inch drop, more suitable for the roads of 1932.1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-32-ford-stock-dropped-beam-jpg1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-stock-beam-jpg

The new/old Radius Rod I built replaces the kit version, it is a Model-A carry over used on the 1932 frames. I found a frame reinforcement diagram in " 32 Ford THE DUCE" by Tony Thacker. Lots of good info in that book. The Steering Arm provided by Monogram is a great engineering improvement but just won't do for my 32. Did I mention how much I like rivets. Looks like all the front end parts are finished. The Houdalle shocks came out well in the test fit. The Perch Assembly was a mind bender when trying to define its multi-purpose and elevations but it too fit well, it's not the first time that my mind has been bent. The front Transverse Spring was not difficult as I just copied the kit spring. I must say that so far the scale measurements of the Monogram 32 Ford Street Rod are dead on. What a pleasure it is after building a Pocher Alfa Romeo.1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-005-jpg1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-002-jpg1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-003-jpg Front end pictures to follow, meanwhile here ars some pix of my shop.

The Rear Transverse Spring is finished. You may notice that it is a bit different than the Model A Spring used in the 1932 Model B and included with Monogram's Roadster. I modeled the assembly depicted in "Dave Graham"s CD 1928-1948 Chassis Parts" In the old-days I fabricated parts from brass or aluminum stock, now if it is going to be painted I mill or turn it from Cherry wood. You will be surprised at how precise a part can be when fabricated from hard wood. A thin or small part made from Cherry can be brittle I seal it with Super glue before painting. After some more changes the frame stiffener is finished and riveted in place. 1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-p1020890-jpg1932 Ford Delux Roadster Model 18-p1020892-jpg
