I finally built it, in a return to a hobby I have not exercised in many years. Tamiya Blue Coral seemed very close to a period colour, so that's what I used. Matt clear coat over same inside looks pretty close to period, too. I've wondered why these 1/16th AMT Chevrolet kits have not been re-issued but, now having built this one, I see why. There's not much to it, and what's there doesn't fit together too well. Much fiddling to make it look right but it does make a nice model in the end. Unlike its championship winning predecessor the BT49 and the later B52B, the B50 was unreliable and prone to blowing up. The 1980's "turbo era" F1 cars were notable for their incredible power and speed but also for their propensity for failure. They did however spice up the racing in those days with spectacular performance followed by on track pyrotechnics! These and their Mercedes CLK-GTR and Nissan R390 GT1 kits don't leave much room if any for me to add any meaningful detail. That said they are a pleasure to build and look great displayed with the rear bodywork "open" or left off. He was largely responsible for the successes of the TWR Silk Cut Jaguar team which campaigned in sports car and endurance championships in the late 1990's including the Le Mans 24 hrs. The creamy coloured rectangular object to the right of the ECU in the foreground is actually one of the mirrors that has fallen off of the body! I hadn't noticed it was there when I took the photo! This model represents the Merceds 300SL Mille Miglia car with which Stirling Moss won the 1000km race in Italy in 1955. Stirling's passenger, Denis Sargent Jenkinson, created a nifty device for the pace notes. Housed in something like a small tobacco tin, it enabled him to scroll through the notes without having to have a pile of papers on a clip board blowing about in the open cockpit.
