        After building a couple of Willys Jeeps (1944 MB and a 1953 CJ3B) I had the idea to recreate an exact copy of my Jeep. I believe not many are familiar with this model since it is a Mahindra built in small numbers, so I'll first introduce the original. This is a Mahindra CJ 4 (note that Jeep only built one-of prototype CJ 4 model) built in 1970 in Bombay. It was imported to Yugoslavia (at the time) along with CJ3B in exchange with some weaponry. All the parts are identical to the Willys CJ 3B right down to the F-134 Hurricane engine. My father bought it in 1997 with only 12.000kms on the odometer and we've had it since. During the 15 years of ownership we've kept it pretty much original with the exception of the engine. It now has a 2.3 Diesel from a Ford Sierra because the Hurricane was very thirsty.

        Here's the Jeep






        I started the model this past summer of 2011 from the frame. Material is 0.4mm aluminum from offset printing technology and so far CA glue 1:16 Mahindra CJ4 (scratch built copy of my 1:1) works great.



        front bumper with holes and rivets


        rear bumper with crossmembers


        leaf springs and D44 axles


        Started the body from the floors up. I used simple plywood dies and the result was good but with lots of space for improving




        Here you can see the firewall in its rough form.


        Next I built the rear wheel wells. I don't have tools for stamping so I added strips of aluminum to replicate the floor patterns.


        The long rectangular part is actually the difference between the 3B and the 4. The difference is roughly a 30cm longer wheelbase for the CJ 4.




        The underside is copied in the same manner...

      Thanks Douglas! When it comes from you guys, it really means something to me, I admire your builds every single day!

      I started the engine, this one is a first for me so If you notice anything wrong please point it out









      It looks like it's small, but that's only the engine block which is small by itself. When I add the rest of the parts it will be just fine

      The start of the timing chain cover


      I still haven't gotten small enough nuts and bolts, and I want to finish it as soon as possible so a little soldering wire will do the trick this time


      I also did the cylinder head and valve cover.


      Next was the exhaust manifold




      The parts are held in place with one drop of CA glue 1:16 Mahindra CJ4 (scratch built copy of my 1:1) so when fabrication is done I will dismantle everything, paint separately, and put together later on

      The engine bay looks better now

      During the time that the forum wasn't loading, I was busy building various parst of the engine.
      Thermostat housing, generator, starter, oil filter, pulleys, water pump, fan and test belt.

      Yes, with my aluminum and styrene 1:16 Mahindra CJ4 (scratch built copy of my 1:1) builds I use CA glue 1:16 Mahindra CJ4 (scratch built copy of my 1:1) . It works great, it's fast and very durable. I have model ships and planes (also from scratch) built 10 years ago and they are ok.

      Winter does not allow me to paint outside, and I don't want my house to smell on paint so I waited for some sun. This morning I painted the engine block Ford blue, and painted the small bits and pieces.







      Tonight I will assemble the parts that are finished and I'll continue building the rest.

      Today I started the radiator core using Roger Zimmerman's technique and it works great!
      But building it on a model half the size of the Continental that Roger is building doesn't allow to make it look great. It's fiddly, it's difficult and I won't be doing it on any model smaller than 1:10. And that's a promise!

      Not bad for a first time! Don't forget that the distance on my own radiator between two tubes is 1 mm. If I'm looking right, you must have 1.2 to 1.3 mm space between the tubes. If you had use a little bit more paper to have a tighter zigzag, the effect would be better. Don't forget also that I had more than one day to do my radiator!

      To be honest, I came home this afternoon and jumped onto the core immediatly and was doing the job from what I memorised reading your thread.
      Now, after checking your thread again, I think I'll add a little bit more paper tomorrow, probably double. It's not glued in place so it shifts freely in the space between the fins.

      It's just the thing that I hate doing the same thing twice, but I'm determined to make this one look as good as possible.

      Nobody likes to do the same parts twice! You are right, with adding twice the length of paper, you will get it right. With tighter zigzag, you may even not need to add glue. It will stay in place just with some paint. Good luck!

      I'm running out of time, will be leaving back for college on Monday, so I want to get done as much as possible by then. Therefore, I left the radiator as it is, just added bottom and top parts and pipes.

      I also did the air filter and the bits that go on it







      Here's the radiator, later I had to move the pipes to make room for the hoses.




      I did the water hoses with the spring and heat shrink trick, it didn't work out as expected .




      I avoided them for long time, but I had to do them today, the cables.




      First trt was nice, but they looked more like diesel lines than cables, so I had to modify them. Too bad the red wire I used is too thick for the application.









      Rough mock up of the engine bay. Next I'll be building the battery and it's mostly done, at least that's the plan. I'll add few more things later but not do every single thing in it.

      Thanks! I had spare time these past two weeks so I tried to do something and for me it turned out to be quiet a big job!

      I wasn't satisfied with the cables, so I hacked up a USB cable and voila!










      Nearly finished exhaust with muffler












      Made the upper shock mounts and fitted the shock absorbers.






      Here it is in one piece again after many months
