Okay, this will be the official thread for my Fish Truck build. It may have been known by other names but now we'll just go with Fish Truck.

To refresh your memory and bring the new guys up to speed, the Fish Truck is a build I'm doing for a freind who likes trucks and espially Ford trucks. JHe has a fish taxidermy business - thus Fish Truck. It is a concept/show car build, not meant to replicate an exact car.

It is loosely based on a '32 because I'm using a heavily modified deuce cowl. Also, the frame rails are inspired by actual '32 rails although the frame is completely scratch built Fish Truck - including all crossmembers, K-members, etc.

This weekend I managed to modify the cab (also scratch built Fish Truck ). I shortened the cab, added a smaller mail-slot rear window, made a removable roof (for display/photo purposes and as an aid in construction). I also made a console mock-up which looks cool but if I go with a console I'll have to figure out what to do with the shift linkage.

The interior will have Disco-style (removable) door panels, using two-tone velour and wood among other materials. I also designed the ceiling Disco-style so it can have a matching velour headliner, easily installed during final assembly.

I also made a pickup box. The box is designed to accept wood stake rail sides or a removable tonneau cover. I could also make a removable camper-shell type thing because it would still mount to where the stake rails go in.

So far, with frame, cab & truck bed pretty much complete, the only non-scratchbuilt part I've used is the deuce cowl.

Other ideas I'm throwing around are big-rig style exhaust stacks, truck mirrors and a brodie knob for the steering wheel. I am also using the wide Goodrich tires in the rear and the wide Goodyears in front. Yes, you heard right. I am going for real bigs and bigs. It's the look I'm going for - not practicality (although I'm sure Grandpa will talk me into adding a power-steering pump). Wheels will be the deep dish daisy mags all the way around.

I still need to add the body molding trim to the cab (Evergreen half-round strip) and make some modifications to the door honges before I post pictures. Hopefully that will be this week.

That's it for now. More to come.

      Steve

Hey Bro.......not gonna' bug about the P.S. pump....I really can't, when I ordered my Hemi Roadrunner I didn't get power steering or brakes.......couldn't parallel park or stop it but at the time real men didn't need those sissy power robbing things.....yeah right!

    Fish truck and taxidermy huh?
Need a fish to mount on the roof or to put in a cooler with ice in the back? If so, got you covered...crappy pics but you'll get the idea.

Thanks Don but I wouldn't want you to raid the little woman's fish model collection. Althoough it would cool on top of the roof, rotating like one of the bugs you see on an exterminator's truck. Hmmmm (kidding of course.)

I forgot to add earlier that your C-Cab build was also an inspiration for this type of concept build - where you begin with the kit part you want and build your model around it. Although you had a plan, I'm pretty much making it up as I go along.

The huge tires are cartoonish a bit but I think they will work for what I'm trying to do. I so wanted to use those deep dish daisy's all the way around but there was no suitable front tire in the inventory that could handle it (without modifying and thus making it non-deep dish), except the deuce Goodyear rears.

On another note I wanted to tell you about an Offy model A on Dave Lindsay's site. Beautiful pictures from all angles of a chromed out Offy in a Model A truck. If it weren't for the fact that I already have an engine practically finished for my truck I'd opt for the Offy.

Check this build of a real "Fish Truck" 1929 Nash. Some good ideals here....

Keep in mind... work in progress Fish Truck . Most of the major construction issues have been handled. All that's left is design (the fun part).

Jury is still out on the console...

Hey Steve, looks like it will be a very cool build! Just a couple of suggestions. To add some SOLE to this truck I would give it SHARKtooth interior, paint it CODdington red with a RAINBOW trout pinstripe Fish Truck , definately TUNA the engine to perfection, use ELECTRIC eels for spark plug wires and perhaps finish it with a PEARL Fish Truck top coat on the body.

Now stop FLOUNDERING and get busy!

Off to buy a new drill press. I need to make some Holly Mackrel!

    Have fun y'all!

The early stage looks good - even if it is still roughy.
Scorpio - Builds models the way the prototype should have been built.

    Looks good.

FYI, I added a pic to your first post so it would show up on the homepage. As you progress if you change the first photo in the thread it will update on the homepage.

I mentioned earlier that I had to make some modifications to my door hinges. In retrospect, I should have gone with my basic tried-and-true paper clip hinges but I tried to do better. They didn't work as well as they should have.

So what I thought would be an easy repair turned bad midway through the procedure, and while I used all my skills doing everything I could to save the cab - ultimately I had to make the decision to let it go.

It is a descision that most modelers will make at some point, but that doesn't make it any easier. Fish Truck Cab, V1 will be missed.

It should be noted that Fish Truck Cab, V1, did go out as a hero. I learned much from the build and will try and use that on V2 and other builds.

So I have to build a new cab but I didn't want to waste a new deuce cowl and V1's cowl was not salvagable so I decided to take a stab at making my own cowl. If successful, that would mean the entire truck body would be scratch built Fish Truck . I will share the progress (hopefully) here...

After drawing the cowl opening in the front bulkhead I added a piece of 1/8” square Evergreen strip that the cowl will be attached.
Using a Dremel Fish Truck disc cutter I cut out the opening to within about 1/8”.
I then smoothed out the cut with a barrel sander…
…so that I could remove the remainder with a nibbler tool.
Using the deuce cowl as a guide, I made a cowl template out of card stock. I foldd it in the middle to make sure it was symmetrical. I allowed a little overhang that will be trimmed later.
I used .060 Evergreen sheet for the cowl. Using template, I cut out the cowl and then bent (actually rolled) it to reduce the tension when I glued it to the bulkhead.
Inside shot.
I added a piece of .060 quarter-round Evergreen strip to the outer seam.
Starting to resemble a cowl.
Backside shot.
I drew the windshield opening onto bulkhead…
…and then used nibbler to cut out the opening.
I added a piece of .100 square Evergreen strip to the front cowl opening that the firewall will attach to.
Trimmed and sanded.
Inside shot.
Fashioned and fit basic firewall, to be embellished and modified later.
17. Added Evergreen strip to hold firewall in place as well as floorboards and windshield frame. Note ¾” channel.

Thanks guys. I have most of the cab pieces finished (walls, floor, doors, etc.) and should have them assembled into a single assembly in a day or so.
