Hi guys. attached are pictures of the body buck for a 1/8 scale model of Sir Jack's Formula 1 championship car the Brabham BT-24. There will be a run of eight built and they are sanctioned by Sir Jack. Myself and Sean Morgan, ( Modelmaker) , intend posting pictures as the model developes. I hope the process will be of interest.
      Cheers,
      John

  2. Thankyou for starting this Build thread John. Thankyou for your kind words Micheal this car is just so forgotten in Model form and just so significant, to me it has been a dream for a long time now to build this beautiful car.
Getting back to the build while John has been busy shaping the Body Buck I've been drawing up a set of Chassis plans as no drawings of this car exist.
I made contact with Beat Shenker from Swisserland Ex mechanic to Silvio Mosser and current restorer of an ex Mosser/ Williams Ford Cosworth Powered BT24.
Beat has been very kindly spending countless hours measuring his car for me ( Beat if you are reading this Thread many Thanks!!).
I have also solved our Tire problem with many Thanks to Strevo very kindly printing me a set using the rapid Prototyping 1/8 Scale Brabham BT-24 Scratchbuilt Process.
I hope to make a start on making the chassis which will be made from Brass and silver soldered, the build will be a slow one!!

    Amazing project!
It would be interesting to make molds for the tires to be able to duplicate in black silicone.
The hard sensitive side of the resin 1/8 Scale Brabham BT-24 Scratchbuilt bothers me a bit ...
And you would have at least one customer, me!
What are the dimensions of these tires?
    Thank you very much!
    Dan.

    Javier,
Sean sent me dimensions from a tire that he had measure which I used to create a 3D computer model of the tires. I won't get into all of the details of that, but basically I drew the tread out on a flat surface that I then curved around the perimeter of the tire and joined in the computer. Then I used those files to create an "STL" file that I can send to my 3D printer at work. Then it works sort of like a regular printer by slicing the 3D data into paper-thin sections which it prints one at a time on top of each other using a water-thin superglue-like material as the "ink" which bonds the powder together into the shape of the part. Once it's done, I just dig it out of the powder like an archeological excavation, and clean off all the loose powder. Then I soak it in another superglue to totally solidify it. The machine I have is not capable of extremely fine detail like some are, but it is usually good enough to get something to work from.

What an exciting project. Great to see such a historically significant race car being done.
I love the fact that so much of what we do in our modeling especially in scratch building, is still done by hand or apsects of the build drawn and designed with pen and paper. But I just love the fact that modern technologies can be adapted and used so readily. Also that others who know these technologies so generously share them!
Thankyou guys I really am looking forward to watching the progress of what see as a very special build project.

  10. Thanks for the kind words Geoff I for one am at a loss to work out why no one has ever done a large scale model of this as you've said Historically significant car especially being such an attractive beautifully designed and to boot 3 time world Championship winning car. This car and it's driver makes me proud to be an Aussie !!!!

  13. The Body Buck arrived today from John so I took the opportunity to put the tires up against the buck to get a better Idea of the size of the model.
Next step is to make a start on soldering up the Chassis but first I'm going to tweek the buck so to speak and give it several coats of Primer 1/8 Scale Brabham BT-24 Scratchbuilt Filler with lots of rub downs between coats.
Thoughts and comments are most welcome guys!

Wow, you can really start to see it come together with the tires sitting next to the body buck. It looks great. This is going to be a fantastic model!
