I havent been able to update lately...we have been too busy doing this...

Driver was okay, just a bad ending to a very fast and promising weekend.

After doing some math and realizing that my original model was nowhere near 1/8 scale I decided that it was as far as i could take it, I painted it and decided to start an accurately measured car. Here is the end result of model #1...

and now the new build... bit of a learning curve with brass but i think I am getting it...

Sides being built on basic diagram with subtle differences between left and right sides.

      Both sides near compltetion...

Commitment time...erected sides held together with mocked motor plate and template

At this point I am getting structural rigidity... a lot more cross bars to come but I will be focusing on some detail work while I still have access with files and such.

You can see the considerable size difference. Never measured out the scale on the first one but I do know that its larger than 1/12. I like doing the bigger scale better since I get to pay attention to some details that just weren't possible on the smaller one.

That's some beautiful brassswork. I like the way you used the pattern to set it all up. I'm assuming you used the soldering iron to work the joints.

That's because the car was wet. That's how you hang it up to dry off.

Your brass work looks great! Just remember practice makes perfect.

Just a couple of tips: use a real hot 1/8 scale sprintcar update... iron and file the tube joints to a tight "fish mouth" with a round file the tight joint will use less solder and require less clean up time. Use Staybrite solder and flux. After the solder joints are complete use acetone on a Q-tip to clean before filing; your files will last much longer and stay sharper if not contaminated with flux.

For a building board try this instead of wood...buy a 2' x 4' cheap style ceiling tile and then tape a white poster board to it. This is much easier to insert T-pins into when bulding parts and pinning 1/8 scale sprintcar update... them down at 90 degrees and angles as well. You can cut ceiling tile and poster board to smaller sizes to fit work surface or desktop. You can also print out drawings and tape them to the poster board as well.

Keep up the great work and I will enjoy watching the progress. If you have any questions about brass just ask.

Reviving an old project. After a house project and a couple of full size sprint car builds and tours, I finally have time to dust off the gear and relax a while. New pics soon

Chassis is 95% complete. I have to hold off on the rear end for a bit so I started the tail tank. Starting with craft foam...

    then body filler

    taking shape

my ultimate goal is to make a mold of it the produce a fiberglass copy.
