Hour glass sand , wow, I would have never thought of that! I will give this a try on the Pocher Alfa engine block. Have tried many methods, but never thought of just adding too paint. Great tip. Your work on the Jag's engine block is just outstanding. Look forward to you postings. Rick

Thanks Mario, my airbrush has three sizes of tips, fine, med and wide. I also have the ability to control airflow, what tip and PSI do you recommend. Now for the funny question I am about to ask. Where in the world did you get this sand which must be extra, extra fine to mix w/paint and flow thru a airbrush ? I have seen this done on armor (tanks) in real life to give you a area to walk while wet and not slip off the vehicle. This too was applied with a airgun. Another great tip from a master builder. Thanks for your input, Rick.:)'PS: what is the ratio for mixing sand /paint?

Heres one of those post you wish was not true.........gave one away, mint. I thought the thing was too toy like. Happens to be the one car if I could have would be setting in my garage. I have tried to find again, the version with the racing decals: EBay>$200.00 and still being bidded on @ the time!!!!!!!!! Here will be another purchase in the future after seeing what Mario is doing with this racy gal.Rick PS: There was a fella in Canada that was making wire wheels for the Jag, I would kill to get ahold of, but you needed a loan to get a set! Now these on a Monogram Jag takes it to a Pocher status!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of which Mario is doing so now.

Use the wide tip and shoot from a distance....
Mix sand & paint in increasing proportions starting with 25 % sand and do some test shooting in styrene , playing with the sand quantity, paint, distance, etc...I strongly recomend automotive acrylic lacquer for these experiments....fast drying stuff and strong as hell once cured...
As for the sand origin, I broke one of my children's toy hourglasses and till now I have no remorses at all!!
Think you can find these in toy stores out there and they should be cheap...............

On the block, some parts are added to follow the prototype's characteristics....

All the parts shown are not in the kit and have been scratchbuilt...


Pic Nº 1 shows the right hand side of the block with the core plugs in place

Pic Nº 2 shows the left hand side of the block showing some other core plugs...these were turned out in the lathe out of aluminum billet...

Pics Nº 3 & 4 shows the block's water draining petcock, done from brass and steel (Lathe & mill work)...the fixing nut to the block is a 2 mm hex brass nut...the steel fawcett mouth was drilled before heat bending, to show the water exit....

Pics Nº 5 & 6 shows a special block plug made from a 2 mm Allen bolt heavily machined and a 2 mm plain chromed washer...

Pics Nº 7 & 8 shows left and right hand block plugs made from machined 00 - 80 hex brass bolts....

The last 4 pics shows the block in the engine stand showing the new additions...

The front block breather, turned and milled from aluminum billet...attaching bolts are brass hex 00 - 90, machined on the lathe... (Pics Nº 1 to 4)

For those tight spots, a miniature bolt tube wrench was devised and made from an aluminum knitting stick, (Stolen from wifey)...(Last 3 pics)

Drill and tap for an Allen bolt whose hex recess fits your bolt's head....screw in stick, turn bolt's head as near to the hex recess as possible....knurl the other end, and Voil'a...a superb little tool!...you can make a set of these to suit different bolt sizes...
