Is there life after the F40 project ? .......well indeed there is

The Lucybelle will be my next model. The picture shows the model which is assembled by the manufacturer.

I won´t make the NART version but the version how it is currently in a private Swiss collection. This book by Douglas Nye gives me guidance

Some pictures of the box and its contents

The front part is nicely detailled with a separate engine but the aft part is one lumb of resin MG Model PLus 1:12 Ferrari 250 TR 1958 .
I will open the trunklid and the doors and replace them with brass ones.

The innerpart will be replaced by a tubular brass chassis, tank and sparewheel.

      Here is some reference

And here are my drawings of the aft part

      A lot of plans

      regards

      Ton

Ton, you are obviously one of our best modelers. Your work on that engine is absolutely gorgeous. Instead of complaining about how rotten a kit is, you're getting right in there and reworking what doesn't work. That's th basis of great modeling. Keep the pictures coming.

I wish I had taken more pics of this thing. Back in the 90's it lived in the shop where I worked, along with a couple Indycars, Ferrari F189, and a Mk II GT40 (ex-Gurney). Kinda took it for granted. Once its value hit a million four the owner sold it. Can't say I blame him, he said it was a pretty scary ride.

God I was sexy back then...

Wow Ton! Your detail in 1/12 scale looks better than some of mine in 1/8! That engine is a masterpiece!

Thanks guys for your nice comments :D

After the engine the work on the "hump" had to start. A rather important job for me...considering I have never done it and some other projects were dependant of the success of my coppersmith skills. Among them is making in copper of the upper part of the 1:8 ARNO IX hydroplane with ferrari Engine

I started with a piece of copper (no brass because copper is more flexible)

I quit after two attempts and started working with 2 half pieces of copper. After bending, shaping and coppersmithing I could solder both parts together

and with coppersmith tools I shaped in its definitive form

I was satisfied with this try out and confident in my coppersmith skills so I put the cutter in the resin MG Model PLus 1:12 Ferrari 250 TR 1958 .

It wasn´t a sharp cut so I used a copper frame, screws and milliput (epoxy putty MG Model PLus 1:12 Ferrari 250 TR 1958 )

after sanding MG Model PLus 1:12 Ferrari 250 TR 1958 etc. the trunk hole was ready

here some fitting of the hump

next step is finishing the trunk

@ Hot MG Model PLus 1:12 Ferrari 250 TR 1958 Ford Coupe

The lid of the trunk/boot is ready now. A book from 1893 and the books of Gerald Wingrove ( Home Page) helped me a lot with the coppersmithing .

First the copper (brass is to hard) is annealed so it becomes softer. The first shape I have done with my fingers. Than I put some "wrinkles" in the copper where a curve should come. With a small hammer the "wrinkles" are hammered out and this is repeated a several times with this result

Here two parts are ready for soldering

The lid is made out of brass

And here you see old and new side by side

The small lid in the hump will added later :D

Beautiful Ton! Did the engine come with the kit or is it the one from Autograph? I have the engine but have not assembled it yet.

No it is the MG Model plus engine. This engine is developed in 1957 while the other engine is developed for the GTO in 1962. I also have it in my stack i..so all together it is a nice challenge :)
