Hey guys. I have been kind of quiet lately because I have been wrapping up some loose ends and getting some Honey-do list stuff done.

I have also been trying to find a way to get car bodies into the computer so I can make them on my mill and/or with rapid prototyping Indy Roadster Projects . Well with the help of a new member to SMC, named "Bongobat", I now have something to work with. Bongobat uses the David Laser scanner and he was successfull in getting some pretty good scans made of my next two projects. The bodies did not come out perfect, but we are at the very bottom of the learning curve at this time. I will just have to go in and manually tweak the bodies and try and smooth them out some.

I think my next projects are going to be a Watson and Kurtis Indy roadsters. I am at the very early stages of designing up the car body and frame, of coarse we already have the Offy engine. I think I am leaning toward doing it in 1/12 scale unless TDR Indy Roadster Projects decides they want to do it in 1/8. Anyway, here are some pics of the computer models and of the scans that Bongobat did for me.

Tim, looks like a couple of nice projects in the works. As usual I'd be interested in them being in 1/8th to go along with the OFFY engine. Would make a great combination and satisfy the needs of the Indy roadster era fans.
Dan, can you post a couple of pics of the Halibrand wheels, to see what we'd be working with? Also, do you already have the Indy style tires to go with the rims, or is that another project that needs attention?

I can say this much on behalf of TDR Indy Roadster Projects .......personally, I would like to do it in 1/8th as well. But that is going to depend on you members and guest visitors....if enough of you want one in 1/8th to help offset mold costs etc. it can happen. As Tim mentioned the Offy is a done deal in 1/8th. If TDR Indy Roadster Projects gives a green light to the body and frame the engine is a given. If you guys don't speak up it will only be available in 1/12th at this point. TDR Indy Roadster Projects is doing the nuts and bolts heads scratching stuff but unless we feel that it's something you guys want it'll only be 1/12th. The ball is in your court...speak up or just wish, your call.

If we have a choice and seeing as so much of this site tries to provide material in 1/8 I would vote for 1/8th.

I am a big fan of early Indy cars. Never really liked the roadsters, but the more I have read about them and viewed photos of them in my books the more I like them.
That would be an amazing kit in 1/8th or 1/12th.
Of course I know what I would do for wheels if they were to be done in 1/8th.

This sounds like a great project! The computer drawings are great and the frames look just like in the book I have. Would there be much of a cost difference between 1/12 and 1/8?

    I will for sure Don.
Reading this thread made me go inside and into my vast library. Got a lot of books on Indy and eary US race cars in general. The wheel I showed above will be more suited to the when the roadsters first started showing up. But I can live with that. I may also look into having a go at doing some later style of wheel for an indy roadtser.
A roadster in 1/8th would be a stunning model to have on display.
We are so lucky to live in a time with the technologies a lot of us have at of finger tips. The fact that a group of individuals will be able to produce such a model. And for those of us who want to build a model from what those guys produce, we have the access of so much detailed information on the net and written in books. It is great to live in a time when so many great books are being written documenting so much of the past.

Heres the two wheels Sean did up. My original molds are toast but I could knock out a 2nd set. No tires but they do fit the original Firestone's.
