I just completed another 1/12 Caterham 7- the JPE special which held the 0-60 mph world record at one time.

There are some small differences with the BDR kit, both in the engine and bodywork. The original car was in a sickeningly fluorescent yellow (!) so I gave it a metallic aluminium look. Looks good next to its sister! As I have said before, these kits are awesome fun to build. You just cannot believe the details that are included. Some pieces are just 2mm long! So much is hidden by the end of the build but the modeller will know it's there. I left the bonnet and nosecone off to show off the engine bay.

The cabinet is filling up nicely...now where am I going to put the Pocher RR?

P.S. Thanks must go to my little assistant who helped paint the engine parts. There were a few tears when the car went to its garage in my office, but there'll be another model along soon for him to help build!

I too have built these, and agree they are over the top. The only problem with building to this degree of scale is, not too many kits are out there to satisfy the need for this type of construction, and what is, cost a arm to purchase, as I see you have 2 Pocher's in the display case. Did you know you can go into a car boutique in England, look over all the goodies, purchase what you can and proceed to build your very own Caterham, or pick out what you want and have built for you. Man that would be neat to find that box in the driveway f/assembly!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I found a really handsome pearlescent red- I believe it was a Tamiya lacquer .

You are correct about the high price of these detailed multimedia kits, but I think they are excellent value for a couple of reasons. Considering the number of hours needed to produce a good quality kit, you can only build a couple per year, so all in all it is still not an expensive hobby. Also when they are finished, they are worthy of being displayed thereby providing more hours of enjoyment. I get to look at my best models in my office every day.

I have built some cheaper, simpler kits but even when finished well, I do not feel like looking at them afterwards. Those are the ones that stay at home at the mercy of the kids!

Still, when all is said and done, you cannot beat a wooden ship for modelling satisfaction, beauty, and economic value.

There is one more Caterham in the 1/12 series- maybe if I see it going cheap on Ebay I will grab it- but in the meantime, my attention is gravitating towards the Pocher Rolls Royce I have, which I intend to build as a chassis-only model alongside a body-only model on a wire frame.

First I have to find a place to work. Currently I have a two square foot knee-high table from IKEA in the laundry room! The workshop became my youngest son's bedroom a year ago, at which point modelling activity slowed considerably.

Still with the right organisation, i reckon I can give it a go!

Too bad we can't get you a bigger work area, mouppe. Keeping you down is in such a little room is a shame. Believe me, I know what apartment living can be like and the amount of room it gives you.

good work, recently I have been working on two these Caterham. This is as close to working on a real car in the apartment. quite a impressive kit but still need to add more details to make it more realistic.
