      Hi all,
a few years ago I decided to try a model as a "look what i can do" on-spec. effort to win customers.
To my amazement, I found an M8F McLaren almost locally, being restored by Scott Racing in Brandon, Suffolk.
I went over for two days, measuring and photographing the beast and having a good old natter with the great guys at Scott.

Part way through the build, we decided to take up a life afloat and bought an historic canal boat to live on and subsequently rebuild and the M8F went into safe storage.
Well, we've been "back on the bank" for a while and I may well take up finishing this baby.

In the meantime, you can see a step-by-step feature I put on my friend's fotki album. It has text to each of the photos explaining how I did the various bits.

      You can find it here:-
      http://public.fotki.com/cafox513/m8f_112th_step-by-step/

      I
      hope you enjoy it.

    Thanks, Ton.
Obviously nobody else can be bothered to look up the link!

I don't know how to add photos to a post on here, so it has to stay a link.

    Cheers,
    Mr.Tin

Right, I seem to have sussed the photo addition thing, so here goes with a couple of pics of the M8F.

This is major league work here. Here I go getting intimidated again. Back to the work bench go I.

Jeffrey, it's all documented on the link in the first post. I did it with the hope that it would demystify the process.
The aluminium is printers' litho plate, bent round formers and glued together with Evo-Stik, a contact (Impact) adhesive which works well on aluminium. The rivets are impressed from behind with a scriber on to a cutting mat. The frames are brass sections used where suitable from the K&S McLaren M8F in 1/12th scale Metal Centre and model railway materials emporiums.
Obviously I've resorted to the lathe for all turned items. I don't have a milling machine, so the lathe or minidrill are all I have use of for these models. It's never been a problem for me as I have tried milling machines and failed miserably! The lathe is a Taig (British name, Peatol) which has served me very well and is very inexpensive. I have recently replaced its rather odd chuck with an Indian made gem which has steel jaws and a key to tighten it.
Here are the patterns for the Keith Black Big Block, which I made in plasticard and epoxy McLaren M8F in 1/12th scale putty McLaren M8F in 1/12th scale . My chum in California is moulding them for me in resin McLaren M8F in 1/12th scale currently as he has the tyres.
Unfortunately, when I lived on my boat I lost nearly all the photos I took at Scott racing and the car is now somewhere in Europe being raced, so reference is a problem. I still have my notes and sketches, but I did them so long ago that I can't understand what half of them are!!
    Me...organised?? Nah!!

Martin, I just took a look at the Fotki link and for some reason the photos are not showing up. If you have them on your computer would you mind uploading them to the SMC gallery as reference. Thanks.

Oh! I'll look into it and see if I can import the fotki feature to SMC, lock stock and barrel, if you would like it on here? I know links can be a bit of a pain.
The photos on here are pinched off fotki anyway as I have none on my hard drive for some reason. Probably because in those days I had a Mac and changed to a laptop when we moved onto our boat.

    Thanks for your interest.

I've asked the guy who owns the site if it can be done. I just checked the site and got all the pics and texts. Could it be your browser, Daniel?

Just checked it again, all is fine! I use Google Chrome.
Anyway, I've pinched the pictures, the text won't come with it, so I'll have to redo that.
With that in mind, I'll run it as a new thread as if I was making it now, even though it was 9 years ago, to my surprise!
So, look out for the new thread under "M8F, step-by-step".
