From what I have seen so far there are 2 positive things to say about the Altaya GT40 - #1 it is 1/8th, # 2 it is a GT40. Otherwise one wonders if they have EVER seen a GT40 in real life, especially #1075 which they tried (or so they say) to replicate. Over here in Europe the price will be +/- 1.3K € - its a 24 month subscription, each month your receive some parts.

Anyway, some fellow modelers asked me if I could enhance it a bit - so I am doing that step by step triyng to stick to the original as much as possible. Most of my parts are available in DIY or fully build and painted.

In the following months I will show before / after parts and maybe some of you will like the outcome.

      Lets start then...

It started with the brakes. Altaya claims "extrem realism".... well please allow me to disagree

      #2 Carburettors

      #3 ignition coil
The silver "thing" is the one supplied by Altaya...

      #4 fuel pumps
... by Altaya. NO resemblance with the original Stuart Warner pumps at all...

      # 5 dashboard
Altaya did you notice that the needle from the tach is actually printed BEHIND the 0? Really???? Not that it matters regarding the overall "extrem realism"...

      step 1 40 new parts

New dials are in the making...

Very cool stuff. Are you doing these parts in cast resin ALTAYA Ford GT40 1/8th , metal, or is that SLA printing?

I really need to get an SLA printer. I have several FDM printers but I can't get this level of detail.

I double that... the details that one can achieve with SLA prints is amazing. But it takes forever :-). Although the brakes as well as the carbs where still printed with a PLA printer...

I've heard from some folks who have gotten into some of these subscriptions. They've been having problems with getting their kits which seem to be backordered a lot. The initial price of these kits is prohibitive for me and the fact that kits have been delayed for long periods would make it too risky a purchase. This reminds me of the Pocher kits where you have to really work to get things more realistic and work with fit problems.
Still, I'm going to follow this because I love the GT 40 and I can live and build vicariously through you. Good luck on this. I'm interested in seeing how you handle the problems.

Just in case you wondered why the tach has a black line in the red section...the original Smiths tach and speedo had a slightly elevated centre so I simply HAD to recreate that :-).

New brakes, new centre locking nut, air valve, counter weights... and, as the model will show the car after the race, dirty wheels
