Yet Another Jaguar E-Type

I'm a bit mystified by some but not all of the photos disappearing. I previewed each post and then read each post after posting, but now they are gone. Any top tips?

I was able to look over one last year, very closely, and was a little surprised. The "A" arms of the front suspension in particular. They don't look up to the job? Do you know if they were ever a problem? (I am not an engineer, and I am known to over-build things!)

As far as I know, E-Types don't have a reputation for delicate suspension arms. Looks can be quite deceiving, I think. Engineering arms like this is part of my day job, and it's interesting if you design down to the correct loads how little material you need. These cars had the benefit of comparatively tall tyre sidewalls to help cushion the blows - it's the bumps that murder the arms, the braking and cornering barely touch them. I think what happens is that modern arms are designed to be abused more.

Now that it has been proudly displayed for a bit, I am noticing something very quirky.

The tyres go down!

Once every few days, I need to rotate the wheels a bit, as they develop a pronounced flat spot and the car ends up looking a bit sad.

Anyone else encountered this on these monogram tyres?

Hello,
I don't know about Monogram's tyres deforming after a while, but I have seen it with other (older) kits.
It is easy to solve. Just fill them with some paper, just enough to support the weight of the model. Papier-maché in fact.

Beautiful job! I retired about 9 years ago from a career as an automotive engineer (powertrain and turbochargers mostly) and just recently got back into modeling. I'm doing my 1/8 Monogram as the 1966 Series 1 Coupe I had back in the 70's. So I'll need to scratch build the different brake booster and reaction valve. I like what you did with the door seals. You've given me some great ideas and challenged my to raise my personal bar! Salute!

Hi Folks. I'm new to the forum. I'm working on a 1/8 scale XKE from Monogram. Having trouble getting the engine wires inserted into the connectors. I've tried model glue, vaseline, sandpaper and nothing works. Any tips for this? I need to connect 14 wires so I need a good process.

You might look through xKEN (xke - Ken), he started posting the work he was doing on a Monogram XKE engine. -It was a while ago, and I think he had the advantage of then owning one.

But it's worth the look, Ken's work is always beautiful and complete! Always helpful!

Excellent work.
Really loving your conversion to an open top, it is flawless in profile and looks so natural .
Considering doing the same to the beast of a kit I got today...yellow XKE Monogram Jaguar apparently without an engine in this kit...not one engine part on the sprues! Unpleasant surprise.

i have heard of the 1/8 monogram/Revell kit tires flattening with time. Their rubber is MUCH softer than the Pocher kit tires for the classic vehicles especially. Fill the internals with something...a chord, paper, foam, something to give a bit more resistance to the vehicles weight.
