I started on the second 1/8 scale super less than two weeks ago, drawing plans , building the frame and body. Here's some mock up/ progress photos of the model. It's a 70s super that I owned and bought from the local track champion when I started. I'm going to build it like it was when he drove it. It is a pavement car and will have a wing. I learned a lot building the first model so some of this is easier. This time I'm making everything from scratch (except the tires) so that's a new adventure with axles and motor block Long ways to go but this is a blast. Sort of like building the real thing but a whole lot cheaper and it's safer when it's done!

Here are some shots of the new motor. This is my 3rd attempt at building an engine. Something to be said for buying one from TDR Second super modified build as these aren't that easy for me. It will have Hillborn injectors as you can see I've started on. I've got spark plugs and boots. I'll be building the master cylinder and brake lines along with pedals, next. The seat will get tuck and roll upholstery thanks to a tutorial you all had posted.

I'm making progress on the details . Finished the motor and the dash; the radiator is done, complete with "puke can" and hoses. I'm working on setting the rear end suspension, hanging the fuel tank and finishing up the body. Should be race ready in a few weeks. I found a C.A.E. book from the 60s ( I used to have one, years ago) and it's been a great help making some of the parts like the in and out box, fuel and water pump, etc. that I have completely forgotten how they used to look (exactly). This is so much fun; I never thought I could do something so detailed if not for this site's pictures and how to stuff. Thanks.

Some more pictures of the rear suspension. Three point truck arm, with a cross spring. that's the way they ran these cars back in the late 60s and early70s. The wheels and tires are not done, just sitting there. This model is exactly how I remember these cars being built and I should know, I owed and raced two of them.

Well done Ken. I grew up with legendary modified (and later Indy car) builder Grant King when he lived in Victoria. I used to go to his shop and watch him build cars just like the models you are building.

Thanks for bringing back some good old memories.

That's cool. Grant King was certainly one of the best race car builders ever. I grew up around this also only midgets is what my Dad was into. I bought my first super, right after I got out of the Army. Building this has brought back a ton of memories and I'm glad it has for you too. Thanks.

Thanks Gary and welcome to this site. If you're into building some awsome models, this place has the "How To" and what they should look like. I'm a complete novice at this and after about 6 months building and watching what these masters do, I feel confident to try more complicated and detailed models. Good luck and have fun.

Outstanding job. It looks like you could get in, get bump started and have a ball, well that is if you're good enough to back one of those beasts into a corner.

Thanks George, Those cars were a blast to drive but without power steering they were also an arm load after about twenty laps. No women drivers back then, that I know of.
