      Hello Folks,

got a question about the first series XKE-jaguar. Looking at the area around the headlights painted in silver or painted in body-color. Got different answers by Jag.-Owners on this question . Some say, that silver was only used in the darker shaded colors to provide more illumination.Other fraction tells me, that's all rubbish. I am sure, that xken will give me the right answer.Couldn't figure it out by the XKE handbook.

      Cheers

    Well Nortley,

tough luck for Mr. Lucas. Putting a name of a passed away person on a product isn't fair.

    Cheers

Ah. Jaguars. I have a matching number Jag. MK2, RHD, 2.4L Moss box.
I fought with the JCNA (Jag Club North America) over their Judging Guide, as 2.4's have a LOT of differences.
But, you think that's confusing (all MK2's shall have twin down pipes, two mufflers, and twin outpipes with chrome tips....EXCEPT 2.4's with were twin downpipes to single, single muffler, single outpipe and no chrome tip...)
    From the JCNA Judging Guide:
    HEADLIGHT BUCKET COLORS
Earliest cars - body color (Porter – Pg.185)
All other covered headlight cars - the color varies from light to medium silver/gray with a slight metallic Jaguar XKE Question finish
Open headlight cars - body color
All covered headlight cars had a rubber seal around the front of the bucket.

I've judged them. NEVER saw Hammerite paint...and I know exactly what it is. ALWAYS smoother than that.
If I was to use a term from my years with flathead Fords..."Argent", which, if you've used it, is about as descriptive as "British Racing Green", which, depending on year and marque, can be all over the place....or "Maroon".....GM being much browner, Ford being much redder.

Wait until you get into MK2 park light red "telltale" alignment....holy smokes.
