Oh, that's an easy one. It's half truck:

(In this case a Tamiya What the heck is a "truggy?" F-350 cab)

      and half buggy

I've had this together for about a year, and decided to super-detail the sucker. The motor and transmission are deep in the chassis and quite compact, so I have room for a full interior. Looks like there's room for an engine, too. I know the guys that make these:

      Engine Shop - BartosChassis

and couldn't resist picking up a resin What the heck is a "truggy?" big block for $15.00. I'm a Ford guy, so I'll build it up as a 460. The Bartoses are Chevy guys, so their kit looks more like a Chev, although they did a good job on the Ford valve covers.

The included single-plane intake wasn't going to work on a heavy offroader, so I called Summit and ordered an Edelbrock Performer. It really should be taller, but it should look okay once it's covered with a carb and grime.

Next order of business was to make the timing cover and water pump look like a proper Ford. Nothing fancy here, just lots of layers of styrene What the heck is a "truggy?" , and a few nuts shaved off a Tamiya What the heck is a "truggy?" semi wheel.

All painted up. It'll pass. You can see how tight it fits between the shock hoops. It'll be fun to change the plugs in this beast. I mixed Microballoons in with the paint for an as-cast texture on the block, heads and intake.

Thermostat cover and spiffy chrome nuts

I made this dashboard for another project, and figured annoying the rivet counters was worth it. Not very Fordlike, but I hate to let it molder in the parts box.

      And more...

Started work on the engine compartment

The radiator is textured aluminum cut from a Tamiya What the heck is a "truggy?" box trailer

Swapped the front leaf springs for a Skyjacker Z-Link suspension, or as I call it, a *** link. Had to take a sledgehammer to the oil pan, but I got it in there.

Hood pins come from a Losi Micro Crawler

No way I'm getting headers around those shock hoops, so I put the junkyard manifolds back on

    Installed with downpipes

I could only find one door panel. Fortunately it's the one that matters.

Door panels installed. Sorry for the bad focus

Tool box from Tractor Supply (actually a gift-card box) makes a good place to stash the battery

Power steering pump and alternator made and installed, engine bay painted

Floor pan that you'll never see

My driver, Wild Willy, seems to have flattened the seat with his big butt. When I said something, he just said "look who's talking" and shot me a dirty look. So I pulled his arms off until he apologized.

That battery tray could use a cleaning

Body installed, upper and lower firewall joined

Ammo box hides the speed control and wires

Willy apologized, so I gave him back his arms.

He looks a little cramped in that single cab, but I remain unsympathetic. Lil bassard hurt my feelings.

    There will be more....

    Unbelievable!!

That truck appears to be be a distant inbred illegitimate cousin of my Ford High Lift.

The cab is actually from my first Hi-Lift, purchased on the day of its release. It's had a few bumps and scrapes over the years.

No can do. The Scorcher's been sold off, and I'm not sure where the trailer's wheels are 8

Made some progress today. Found a fuel tank out in the yard. I think it's from a Nissan or something.

Installed with filler neck, skidplate and cap:

    Expanded-metal bed (actually a Rubbermaid business-card rack)

    Overall progress:

And some old pics of the Scorcher. Bought it well used and incomplete, spent a ton of money on the restoration using a Blitzer Beetle body and correcting the wheel arches.

Yeah, but I hardly ever drove it and needed the money. Ended up getting about 2/3 of it back, which is pretty good for an RC "investment". Wish my 401k was doing that good.

    Tonight's progress: Fuel can bracket

"Hey Willy, I got the one fuel line hooked up, whatcha want me to do with the other one?"

"Just stick a golf tee in it."

I have to say, OBH, you should win a medal for the most interesting vehicles. Again, the weathering What the heck is a "truggy?" you've done is first rate.

HFC, I got a thing about boring cars. I'd rather build an interesting POS than a nice belly-button rig.

Taillights (Willy could only find one blue dot but that's cooler than none)

A little hard to see, but I filled in the existing scratches with silver. New scratches will remain white.

    Brake lines, both hard...

And the flex line. Out of focus, up by the frame tube.

Dual-outlet Flowmasters, bent, booger-welded and cracked pipes.

Bug guard with a shout-out to the original build.

More work on the engine room:

Steering box, shaft and rag joint

    Heater box and hoses

    Hillbilly overflow tank

I've been putting this off long enough, finally worked up the dexterity to do it:

Fan belt made from .020 half round, rust in the unused grooves.

    Overall engine compartment shot

Scored a good used Mercedes battery (check that date code, I'm surprised it still holds a charge), and bent up a bracket to weld to the frame:

CA fogging makes a pretty good simulation of terminal corrosion.

Tucked under the toolbox for a nice low center of gravity

Is that positive lead going to hit the toolbox? No wonder I keep blowing alternators.

Now this one's been bugging me for a while. If that vacuum-secondary pot is going to be up there top and center, it needs to look more like a vacuum pot and less like a model-car axle:

    Much better now.

More to come, day off tomorrow!
