Gentlemen, awhile back I posted some pictures of another of my model engines. This one is a 1/3 scale 302 Ford V8 engine. As with alot of my other engines this one is also scratch built 1/3 scale 302 Ford V8 video . I have approximately 2500 hours build time in this one. After the initial build I had it running, albeit erradically. I fooled with the fuel and ignition systems but at the time there wasn't the knowledge base that there is today so I polished it up and put it in my display case. After building the Holt and getting it running well I was inspired to get back into the 302. After all it couldn't be just a 'trailer queen'. A couple of months back I built an entirely new distributor for it, this included body, points, cap and wires. I had trouble with the original build as I tried to follow 1:1 1/3 scale 302 Ford V8 video design with the point cam but just couldn't get enough lift out of it being so small. On this one I made the cam an internal design, meaning it's a disc that rotates just inside the body of the distributor as opposed to a cam that just has flats on a disc on the shaft. This allowed me to get more lift and more dwell. I then moved on the carb. As the many years have passed since it was first built I have learned much more about model engine fuel control so I made a new carb also. When I first tried to fire the engine up it was running way to rich and I couldn't seem to get the adjustment I needed so I made an adaptor up to fit a small RC airplane carb on it. While turning the engine over, adjusting the timing and trying to adjust the carb simultaneously it finally fired up. At this point I only have it running at one speed until I sort out the timing needed and what adjustments to make to the carb. It's getting close. Here is a short video of it's first run in quite a few year.

Now that's way cool. It looks like it took a while to start but it finally held it's light.

Gentlemen, here's the latest video of the 302 running. Prior to the last video I had redesigned the distributor. It worked but very intermittently. I was getting frustrated and figured I would go with a Hall effect trigger. This is a system much like full sized automotive practice. It has a sensor that's triggered by a magnetic field and switched on and off by a rotating drum with windows cut into it for timing. As you can see by the video my thinking was that I was having trouble with the carburetion only to discover it was actually the ignition.

Way better George. Looks like you're pretty much there. When it starts off, it almost sounds like an aircraft engine. I love it.

    Hello George,

Looks and sounds great. Have you considered if the exhaust manifolds may be a little thin and restricting gas flow?
