      Hello boys!

I'm glad opening this new Forum with the fully scratchbuilt brass model of the German 88 mm Flak 36 Gun....

The first parts made are the barrel (In 5 different parts for the moment), and the barrel cradle (Where the barrel recoils during firing)....

Pic 1 shows the forward section of the barrel

Pic 2 shows the middle section of the barrel

Pic 3 shows the rear section of the barrel

Pics 4 & 5 shows the reinforcement which assembles the forward & middle sections of the barrel

Pics 6 to 9 shows the muzzle blast compensator...this is a good example of intricate turning & milling!

Pics 10 & 11 shows the barrel assembled

Pic 12 shows the barrel cradle

Pics 13 & 14 shows the forward part of the cradle, with the hydraulic recoil recovery pump

Pic 15 shows the rear view of the cradle where you can see the aluminum piece used as a slide, which has been covered in brass strips that will be riveted to it according to blueprints of the prototype

Pics 16 & 17 shows the forward slide piece which receives the middle section of the barrel for the recoil function

Pic 18 shows the tolerances between parts that should be similar to those of a firearm to allow for a good working performance....

(Cigarrette is there for scale purposes)

      More soon....

      Mario

Looks like you are off to a great start. I will be looking forward to addtional posts on this build. Every now and then you should add some " How you did it " dialogue to better understand the process rather than just the finished part.

    Keep up the great work!

Man, thats some cool precision. A "how to" will definitely add to the experience here. I would love to know how you got some of the mechanisms done there.

I second that comment. Your work is gorgeous Mario, and some of us beginners (obviously I'm not including Ken in that category) would love to know how you produce those superb pieces.

    What has happened ?
Am I missing some other page or you were bored with it ? (I ddoubt it)
I am making plans for the last 4 years for a 1/10 scale model of 88.
A question besides congratulations for excellent work. How do you plan to fire the caps ? My approach is an additional cylinder behind the block hit by a hammer hidden in the rail.
    Your response will be appreciated.

Hi Egon, spinellId, I did notice the time span but since I am still over the drawing board I thought that others could too... It seems that besides the bad news, I have lost my only chance of getting a ready set of plans. Thanks for kind response, George
