Ok Dan Rick and Don I've decided I'm going to document the build of one of my 1/5th scale Full scratchbuilt in metal MV125 Motor cycles in photographic form pretty much the same way I did with the Alfa and I want to do it in my own time which could take awhile with all my other modelling comittments inbetween!
I don't want to waffle on with heaps of text rather let the photos do the explaining but I'm only to happy to answer any questions as I go along.
So I hope I've started this thread in the correct place ? pictures will come latter!

Check though some of his earlier posts (wire wheel search) he posted some info in the past. I'll start a scratch built Scratchbuilt 1/5 scale MV125 Augusta bike thread so we can chat on it rather than hi-jack Sean's thread.:)

Thanks mate, albeit a little late!
Hey if you can find a book called "Harley's, Popes and Indian Chiefs" the Gilera is in that. Something about that bike just floats my boat!
That 750 you talk off....... WOW.0)
Like I said I had been scratch building Aircraft because I thought that was easy and cars, bikes etc would be too hard. You inspired me to try it with that bike. Many started projects but none finished or even near it.
    Man, your my hero:o

I've pulled the model apart and Relooked at every part to see where I can improve on what I've made before .
I started wiith the toolboxes ( Kidney Shaped Aluminium Parts ) attached to the Frame Boomerangs , I originally made these parts in resin Scratchbuilt 1/5 scale MV125 Augusta .
I'm going to make a start on scratchbuilding the front and rear Wheel hub brake Arms and hopefully start attaching all the front Forks to the frame so I can have it back on 2 wheels by the end of the week.

That is just sterling. The detail is world class. How did you make the bike chain and how did you get the detail in the headlight lenses? I have a bunch more questions but we don't have that much band width.

  8. The chain is specialist Photocopier chain which I purchased Via mail order from Japan! Bugger ! I can't lay claim to building That !
To get the detail in the head lamp lens all I did was to scribe the detail in the back of the lens using a scriber and my straight edge ruler then I polished it with Autosol on my Buffing wheel.

Alrighty then. Thanks for the info, Sean. Since I don't build bikes, I really wouldn't need the chain but it makes me want to raid all the broken office equipment for doo dads. I already took apart a mother board and used one of the parts for a coil. Ain't 1/8 scale great?

Old Photocopiers have alot of goodies hidden within you don't need to build bikes to make use of the parts !
It's now back on it's two wheels(obvious from the photos ) I've been steadily refining older made parts and in some cases totaly rebuilding certain parts, next up I'll finish working on the handle bar clip on details and start on a functional metal stand so as I don't have to keep laying the bike on it's side running the risk of damaging it.

Just sittin' here this morning looking at my "Honey do list" for the weekend and admiring the craftsmanship you are putting into this build. The stuff you, Mario and a couple of the other guys have posted in metal is really beginning to give me the "itch" to give it a try. Great looking MV Sean.
    BTW...the photos are fine.

  14. Gee Thanks Don I'd love to see more scratchbuilt metal models here and judging by what you build in plastic you'd do killer work in metal, once you start building in metal you'll never look back!
    Have a great weekend !
