This build of Suzuki's classic 750 Katana "Pop Up" headlight was a bit of a challenge for me. The challenge was building it straight from the box with no modifications or alterations. This is a little out of my comfort zone as I normally do a lot of scratch building and serious modifying. I set myself this challenge for 2 reasons - #1 - for my local club annual comp "standard kit" section, and #2 - just to see how hard it would be to resist the temptation to modify. Well that proved very hard indeed, but I did it. Couldn't wait to get back into chopping things again after completing this bike.

Yes Marc, plenty of progress photos, but very little time to get on here to put them up. Please be patient and I will eventually get this done.

First step is to prepare the parts and test fit before any painting. When I'm happy that it's all going to go together properly I start the painting process. Tamiya Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. grey primer Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. first, then a light wet sand Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. , followed by Tamiya Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. white primer Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. on the bodywork (as these parts will be done in pearl Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. white) and grey again on everything else.

In between all the main construction stages there are other small things that need to be done. One of which is tinting the windscreen. To do this was very easy. A coat of Tamiya Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. Smoke X-19 followed by a coat of gloss clear. Simple as that but very effective.

The engine went together like a dream. All painted standard factory colours. I had a plastic container with some remains of tinted resin Suzuki GSX 750 S Katana "Pop Up" headlight. 1/12th Tamiya. I had used for a puddle of murky water in a diorama and thought a tiny circle of this would look great as the oil level window. And it did.

Almost ready to go in the frame. Just a few more little fiddly bits.

Engine fits into the frame very nicely, and pegs hold it together while the glue sets. While I wait I put the rear suspension and swing arm together.

Swing arm and suspension is fitted to frame, and then the exhaust pipes are attached.
