Here is the DML 1/6 Sd.Kfz.2 Kettenkrad that I have been working on since last Christmas. I received the kit as a gift from my daughter. DML released different versions of it as a pre-built for their 1/6 scale figures. I had seen pictures of it before hand on the web and was excited when they decided to release the kit. I was a little disappointed when I found out that there were differences in the pre-built version and the kit version. Mainly, the pre-built version came with an engine and cooling system and the kit version does not include those. There is a nicely detailed transmission in the kit, but everything behind the transmission is missing. I emailed DML and was told the only way to get the engine was through e-bay. I decided to go ahead and scratch build the missing components, how hard could it be, right? Well, here it is 6 months later and I am just starting to paint.

Here is the main tub without the sides added showing the modifications I have made to it. Anything that is white was not included in the kit. I added the lubrication tubes to the torsion bar covers, the exhaust pipe cover on the right side, the heat duct along the left side. I modified how the seat attaches, the kit has it attached to the transmission, it should attach to the floor. There are other misc. details added as needed. I also included a picture of the tub with a 6" ruler in it to get an idea of the size of this beast.

Here are the sides that go on the tub. The front portion of the sides are the fuel tanks. In the middle are storage bins, the right one has the battery in it. DML made working latches for the storage bins. I added the map/manuals/whatever bins to the lids of the storage boxes. I boxed in storage bins and added detail to the one that will hold the battery. I added the missing panels along the rear of the sides.

Next up is the cooling tunnel at the rear of the vehicle. I boxed in the bottom of it and added the posts that the hold downs connect to. On the real vehicle, this tunnel is removable to get to the insides. Speaking of the hold downs, I modified them too. DML molded them much to wide, so I sanded them down to make them look more realistic. I also had to scratch build a muffler as there was not one in the kit. The last picture shows the underside of the tub where I added the track tensioning adjusters that were missing. One bad thing about this kit is that the suspension arms are molded to the tub, so you can't articulate the suspension.

That's definitely a bike. I've never seen one like that. It looks like it's a pretty good model. I'm looking forward to more pics.
