These nuts are the correct scale and are fine silver plated and cost about .30 per nut. That's $14 to do both heads on the flathead. While Dan's pewter nuts are nice, I found it difficult to clean them up. let me know what you think. |

It was so late when I posted this that I forgot to tell you where to get them. My bad. No Rick, The Scale Hardware nuts are only 1.47mm wide (and a little pricy). Flathead nuts need to be about 2.5mm wide. I actually "made" these myself. After looking at an acorn nut longingly, I visually broke down the 2 major parts - (1) a hex nut and (2) a ball or domed top. If I could just find a chrome dome I'd be set. While surfing the net looking for storage boxes for small parts & hardware, I stumbled across ACMoore.com and found these silver plated "head pins" (see photo). I think they use them in making jewelry or something. They are a silver plated ball on the end of a 2" piece of wire. Anyway, at $3.84 for a pkg of 24 I thought I'd take a shot. I made a simple gluing jig by cutting one side out of a shoe box. I slipped a plated 0-80 nut over each wire and then taped it to the box. Then it was just a matter of, one-by-one, sliding the nut up, applying a miniscule drop of epoxy and the letting the nut dro[. I did about 10 at a time using 5 min epoxy. That allowed me time to go back and center each nut on its ball. After that you just snip off the wire and you have a chrome acorn nut. Incidently, I get my silver plated hardware from ReactiveMetals.com. A pack of 100 0-80 nuts costs $14.30. They also sell a silver plated nut, washer and bolt combination in 00-90 or 0-80 for about $45/100. And they have some 00-90 fillister head brass screws that should work nicely on the Strombergs. Tell them Stevie sent you... Anyway - cheesy, simple and cheap - and I'm not talking about my first wife. |

I was a commercial sculptor/model/pattern/mold maker Interests: graphic arts, internet, models, vintage racing, etc Occupation: semi- retired | Now thats what I'm talk'in about, Thanks Esteban for the cool tip on the "Head Pins," That looks to be much easier than the silver solder dolop idea that I was going to try. I love those those fillister screws at ReactiveMetals. AC has some interesting stuff, also. There is some silver metallic braided cord that looks like it might work for braided lines, I'm going to investigate. Thanks again-Gary |

Interests: Paper models and 1/8th Cars Occupation: ole folks home maintenance | I am not going to drop any names of suppliers of detail parts f/Pocher dress up parts, but check this out, f/$45.00 you get enough acorn nuts to do the valve covers of a Alfa w/2 left over. Now after looking at your's, I can get waymore than that for around the same price range. Great tip and ideas like this is what makes reading all the post on a Forum, like we have here, a great source for food for thought, and for that little detail that makes the current project sing. ![]() ![]() You get a 3 clapper f/that one!!!!!! |
