    G'day guys, I'm currently building a 1:16 scale Trans Am GTA. I really want to build it to match my real car, but I don't have the skills to scratch build the non-standard parts. Who can tell me how to convert the dash to RHD? And what about scratch building wheels? On my real car I have 18 inch Showwheels, they are a lot like Torq thrust IIs. I have been building models again for a couple of years, and I'd love to be able to get 1:12 or 1:8 scale third-gen trans ams, but the biggest I can get are 1:16, and I have 5 more of those to build, so I will be plenty busy.

    Cheers

    Have you tried TDR for wheels and tires? They have some 1/16th scale items, or perhaps they can make some.

    As for the dash get a jewellers saw and 0000-size blade and start cutting and moving; but having no image of the dash I cannot advise more than that.

    Posting a picture of the dash would relly help. ;';;';

    RHD conversion? I've had real good luck with Dr. Basackward's reversing putty . Just pile it on, and when dry, flip it over. 04-01-09

    Hi Van,
    From an april fool came further thinking. The cars that I saw in Oz had dashes that looked like mirror images of the LHD dashes here in the states. This may be a job for one of those 3D scanning and resin "printing" services. Have the kit dash scanned, the image flipped, then the reversed image "printed". I have not looked into this process personally, but remember an article in Finescale Modeler a few months back that made it look like a highly doable job. A further possibility comes to mind here. If one is creating or heavily customizing a body, symmetry can become an issue. So, create a half master with the center plane as one side, scan, and make a right and left print to be joined along the center. This process could also lend itself to copying parts in a different scale from the original. Cheers.

    Thanks, I haven't heard of this process, do you have any links by any chance? It sounds like a good way to go, but how costly is it?

    That FSM article is in the November 2007 issue. It only deals with the 3-D printing process, and names PrintaPart.com as the service the author used. He used a CAD drawing as his original. I just did a google search on 3d scanning, one that popped up near the top is a company called 3dscanco. That RHD dash may be more easily achieved that we think. It may also cost a bit, but look at the prices on some aftermarket goodies. Best o'luck, mate.

    Van, post up some pictures of the wheels you are looking for TDR may be able to help.

    As far as the dash goes, scanning it, flipping it, and making it 3D printing ready is a pretty expensive proposition. Even if you can do all the pixel twisting yourself, to get a good scan will be in excess of $100 USD, unless you have some good connections.

    Well, post up the pics of the wheels and I will see if I can help any.

    Here's the wheels

    Thanks for the replies guys, even if there is a wheels that is similar that would be good, since these wheels are only available here in Australia at the moment I doubt that there will be an exact replica of them for my model.
