        A couple years ago Revell came out with a 1/72 U-boat VIIC that is 36 inches long and then recently they came out with a 1/72 American Gato sub which is 52 inches long! Given their size and being a new tool, they actually aren't that bad priced either. Some guys have put R/C gear in them and also have ballast tanks so they can submerge and raise realistically. Here's a couple of videos of them in action including some underwater shots. This looks like a lot of fun!
