Hi again all
I have now started my next static model in 16th scale. I have always fancied building a Bleriot XI because I am fascinated with its front end and “bedstead” landing gear. Hopefully the new challenge will keep my interest going to complete the model.
I have researched this aircraft a bit better than the DR1 that I built in an earlier thread so hopefully it will a be more accurate ? You can find lots of interesting info on the Bleriot XI at this link, including a high res scan of the Wylam drawings which Im using as the base for my model
Bleriot.org
Beware, the plans are full of inaccuracies. Im also cross referencing with photos I took of an original Bleriot in the Shuttleworth collection in the UK. Its reputed to be the oldest original aircraft still making regular flights
I have gathered my materials which include thin strips of bass wood and American walnut, 20lb breaking strain fishing trace wire and small fishing swivels to created the illusion of turnbuckles. The first stage was printing out the plans to the correct size of 16th scale so I could build on top of them. I print onto standard letter size paper and tape it together

To construct the fuselage, I emulated full size construction by drilling holes in the longerons and spars, bent a “staple” from thin piano wire and threaded two swivels either side of the spar before gluing into the holes on the longeron.
That’s a quarter dollar to give scale. I had a friend send it from the US as I only have UK pennies

This is a close up showing how all the parts fit together to make a very strong and rigid fuselage

And this is where the model is at the moment. It can be a little “fiddly” getting all the staples into their holes but it gets easier with practise.... and some patience helps too

Not sure if there will be any interest in this model so feedback will be appreciated. Thanks for looking.. hope you enjoy the build.
