I will go with modelmaker ..the covers were canvas and not bolted on.

As for the colour ..well you have a great choice for the camel..just google for images and you will find the colours range from white to red..(I like the white and red square pattern lol)

Personally..if it was mine ..I would go for the PC10 colour (green/brown colour)

Well.....I painted the wheels natural fabric color with white stitching around the edge. Pictures will follow tomorrow after I get the upper wing struts secured.

Here is what they really looked like. I am at work and do not have access to the original drawing. But the canvas was riveted to a metal frame(the little dots) and also stitched; why both I do not know. However, under some of the rivets is also a snap that attached the cover to corresponding snaps on the wheel rim. There was an inner and an outer cover.

Their is also a reinforced opening that allows access to the valve cap for tire inflation.

As for color the basic from the factory was the green. Then individualized at the squadron level. Early on the British were only interested in squadron identification and frowned upon "personal" identification. Later on in the war as aces emerged personal identifcation evolved folowing the German example. The Germans from the start perceived pilots as "Knights" and as the "knights of old" had personal identifcation so as to be recognized in battle.

Thanks Ken. I repainted them tonight..... looks much better. Just have to add the stitching.

I attached the cabane struts tonight. The upper wing is not secured yet. I need to do several things first before that can happen. It's in place to hold the struts in the corect location. Couldn't resist placing hte wheels, guns, engine and rop in place. Maybe this weekend, she'll be complete.

It is looking GREAT!!!! If you want to take it up a notch consider scratch building the bomb rack with bombs. Check my link out for details or if you want additional info on them let me know. Keep up the great work.

This is fantastic. Rob, this is what museum pieces are made of. I wouldn't be surprised to see the engine fire up with a good yank on the prop.
