I didn't get in enough trouble with the Citroen so now the Camel. I know this kit is no where near the Hasegawa but at $170 it fits the budget. I have more time than money and all the details provided from mouppe's build will act as instruction to make this a more detailed build than Model Airways provides. (I hope!) Plus I will cheat and include things we learn from Mario's Jenny.

Kit won't arrive till next week. Hope the Citroen will be finished soon so I can start on this.

Thanks Mario and mouppe - Great sites and really good info - Even though the planes are different, I am sure some of your technique will apply. I just had to build a biplane once you guys started discussing these. Old guys start remembering things from long ago and all this biplane discussion brought back memories of 1948 when I had a summer job as a horse wrangler at Tunnel Air Camp in the Sierras. The owner flew me in in his WACO-UPF by flying at the mountains to make use of the up drafts then circling around and doing it again and again. Bumpy ride. But I fixed him - airsick and as the passenger sits in the front ****pit, he got the result.

Hey Syd, if you want, we can document your Camel like we're doing with Mario's Jenny. That way, we'll have both Model Airways kits covered for anyone who needs help with the build. Just let me know and I'll start saving the stuff.

Syd, Attached are some Sopwith Camel plans, I hope you find them useful. I hope to get plans from my 1/8 Hasegawa Sopwith Camel scanned Tuesday and I will post them here some time next week. I am interested in seeing your build of the Model Airways Camel and would like your opinion as to the quality of their kits.

Great research shots of the Camel, Daniel. I'm glad this is all staying together for future builds.

Daniel - You made my day! - Once I decided to try building one of these I have been searching high and low for plan info and these are outstanding. I opened the pdf's in photoshop to turn them into jpg's (easier for me to handle). Have not received the kit yet but from everything I have read there is no comparison between Model Airways and Hasegawa except budget dictated the choice. I particularly wanted plans like these to see if I could design photo etched fixtures to replace the clunky cast squares to attach the rigging and to build possible turnbuckle replacements (have to see what the kit provides).

Thanks a million and maybe from the Hasegawa plan set we will see solutions to these and more challenges.

This URL on utube shows the Sopwith paired with a Spitfire, Wade through the video. Shows why the pilots were always blipping their engine and talks about handling the torque problems. Shows takeoff, flight and landing.

Syd, I am trying to post the 1/8 Hasegawa Sopwith Camel and Fokker DrI plans. However I am getting a database error from the site. I have contacted Scalemotorcars with the problem and will post the plans as soon as I'm able.
