Need some help guys, I'm in panic mode.... got my 1/8 Se5 and the plans are dry and very brittle.
When I started to unroll them they started to tear on the edges.

A friend suggested the following to try and salvage them:

Place the roll in the bathroom through several showers so the steam might impart some moisture to them
Call my State's Archives or Historical Society and see what they use on old old paper stuff to restore / salvage them.

Once I can get some moisture in them I can run a set of blueprints from them (are blueprints 100% accurate, or like a copier will you loose or gain a certain %?)

Thanks for any and all help / suggestions

Daniel, thanks for the info and support.

Mouppe, thanks.

Don, I sent you and "email" through the forum "system" with my contact email.

The problem is getting them scanned. At this juncture I am afraid that they would come apart in the scanning process.

I have in the works, communication with another buyer of one on ebay to see if they would scan their plans for a fee + costs.

I am sure that there are some "gurus" that would take one even without plans.....those folks that are gifted and talented enough to build one without them, I am definately not one of those.

Joe, my job in the construction industry requires that I have plans scanned and printed all the time, actually hundreds of drawings per month. The modern machines used definitely won't damage old plans. I recently had hand drawn and coloured property title drawings dated 1906 scanned and copied without problem. Most print shops will scan drawings and place them on cd for you; they give you a choice of making PDF or TIFF files. PDF is the most common and easily transmittable. PDF allows you to print a part or the whole of a drawing, to the original size or scale it up or down. To give you a guide I pay about $2.50 per A1 sheet size scanned to PDF. The A1 sheet size is a little bigger than the size Hasegawa used to print their aeroplane plans. There is also an additional one off charge of $10.00 to have the files burnt to CD. The people in the print shops are professionals at handling plans and will ensure your originals won’t get damaged. From what you have described, it sounds like getting them copied will be the easiest way for you to get usable plans.
