Ok, with thanks to HFC and Lancair IV I am feeling some motivation I have not felt in a long time. The B17s you guys are building are just fantastic!!
This has given me the idea that a 1/48 or 1/32 scale aircraft build may be something that I could happily embark on. So........
I thought for almost 10 seconds and came up with two possibility's.
Either the DAP MkXXI Beaufighter or a CAC Mk XIIV Boomerang, my two all time favorite aircraft.
Back before I joined the Army I was a member of the Moorabbin Air Museum in Victoria, there we had both of these aircraft. (Australian National Aviation Museum - Moorabbin Air Museum)
I spent many many hours working on both of these aircraft, instilling in me a passion that has lasted!
I have fond memory's of sitting in the pilots seat of the 'Beau' dreaming of streaking in at zero feet on a 'strafing' run on a Jap position!

So after a little research I decided that the Boomerang was too much of a project, a 1/25 vac form was available but its spendy and not all that good. I was in the process of scratchbuilding a 1/5th scale one when I joined the Army. That is long gone and I thought that........well........ I don't want to do that much work and the 'Beau' is a much more available kit so that won out.
Depending on availability I may go with a 1/48 as I cant find a 1/32 kit in my price range!

Detail info is readily available for the MkXXI and on searching there is some detail kits but for some reason, (Although I'm happy to work from a kit) I consider the detail kits cheating (Go figure!) and will not use them.

So I'm itching to start making stringers, longerons and instrument panels.

Thanks guys, like I need another project!

Right now I am compiling as much detail info as I can, I have both an original pilots manual and a maintenance manual for the MkXXI. I will contact the museum and I hope to be down there soon to take as many detail pics as I can. I still know some senior members so getting access to the Beau should not be too much of an issue. I also hope to get the cowling's off at least one motor for more pics.

Awww........................ I'm looking forward to starting!
Cheers,
Doc.

Welcome to the airfield, Doc. We have a hardstand waiting for you at the flight line and would be more than happy to see the Beau in all its glory. Good luck finding the right kit.

I picked up a 1/48 Beaufighter kit just the other day, so here go's the start of the first 'wingey thingey' in a long time.

I do think they are a sexy airplane.

Doc.

PS, should I have put the green rubber band on the starboard wing and the red on the port??
Proud to have served.

Wondering, WHY ME? since 1972.

Oh definitely we need to see some of those P-40's. I'll be making an AVG P40 dio in the near future. I'd love to have a "go by" model. One is the Hasegawa P40E and the other two are Trumpeter B's.
