I have a set of the old Monogram tires I'd like to use on an XK-E.

      I'd prefer to have blackwalls.

Anyone ever remove the white paint? (successfully)

      TIA

If the tires are vinyl you should be able to be remove the whitewalls with lacquer Any ideas how to strip the whitewalls from Monogram tires? thinner Any ideas how to strip the whitewalls from Monogram tires? .

Well Ron, it's depending on the kind of paint used. Some solvents will cause damage on the tires.... there will be a "solution" you don't really want. I'd rather try to remove the paint by soft sanding Any ideas how to strip the whitewalls from Monogram tires? with steel wool Any ideas how to strip the whitewalls from Monogram tires? . It will even give the tires a worn touch. When the whitewalls are only applied to one side, you can turn the treated wall to the inside. Sometimes a little squeezing of the tire will peel some of the paint off, too.

    Thank you very much.

I think the tires are more like rubber and less like vinyl, but I certainly could be wrong.

I will probably take the suggestion of reversing them, but paint the whitewall black so it does not show from the opposite side.

Ron, you might consider trading your whites for a set of black-walls.....the old issue whites have more value as they are. As an example, I have a number of "spare" black walls tires from various cars and if your vintage whites are in good shape I'd consider swapping you a set if I have 4 in the sizes you want?

Yep, I'd go for the trade possibility if possible!

Okay Ron, I've managed to dig out a set of the old (semi pneumatic) Firestone 600x16 tires.......problem is they appear to be from 2 different production runs (whatever)...3 are exactly the same and 1 is almost solid with slightly sharper tread edges.
I'm still searching thru boxes of of resin Any ideas how to strip the whitewalls from Monogram tires? parts for Flattie stuff.........still interested in some sort of swap? If so, I'll post a pic of tires here in this thread. I'm not looking to make anything on this deal so if you don't want to swap......we'll work something out where you can cover the postage and I'll send you the tires if you want 'em.

Ron, I just checked my mail again & I don't have it......don't you just love 'puters?
Anyway, try sending me the addy by site PM. I'll put these tires in the mail, when you get them (if they are what you want and can use them) send me your whites. If they aren't what you want, keep them anyway but don't send your tires....fair enough?
