    A masterpiece!

It must it take you a lot more time to draw this than it takes to build an actual model even considering all the sanding 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! , detailing, etc. of the hardware model. Seems like you have been working on this for many moons.

It sure does SYD. I probably have about 80 hours in generating the computer model for this thing. This computer model is actually a completely brand new model from the one I did about 3 years ago. The computer model I did.....way back when, did not have near the detail this one has in it. Notice all the bosses that are cast into this engine. I guess since it was designed for airborn use they really went the extra mile to try and keep the weight down. Instead of just casting 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! thick flanges for the bolt holes they cast them thin and just added the bosses at the actuall bolt locations. These cast in bosses are really going to make this engine POP when you ad a little dark colored wash to the model.

Oh.....I think I have figured out what I am going to try and put this engine into........... Next years contest theme, at the Toledo model show, is "Bikes and Trikes". I am thinking an Allison powered trike. I can use the TDR 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! 11 inch rear end and the Flame patterned tires. Maybe I can work in some kind of P51 looking front fairing too!!! Maybe I can put in some kind of Rat-Fink type character on the bike too............

The 11 inch rear is already available and can be ordered from our website at

    TDR Innovations Home Page

Or just catch our link that comes up at the bottom of the SMC page.

I will probably have the flame tread tires and wheel packages posted up to the site this weekend.

    Tim

The Allison looks great. It has been a long time coming. I can't wait to get y hands on one for my hydroplane. One question I have is that I saw that you mentioned that these were going to be 3D printed pieces. What material are they to be printed with? The reason I ask is that some of the 3D material is water soluble. I purchased a 1/8 scale allison that was 3D printed about a year or two ago but everything that touched it dissolved it. I every tried coating it with CA but that became a mess. I paid a lot for it too and now consider it lesson learned. For a boat, I obviously cant have something that is water soluble at its core. Thanks

    Cheers,
    Kevin

Hey Kevin. I always wet sand 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! my parts and have always washed them off in the sink and have never had any problems with the parts.

Now I have never soaked them in water for a long period of time, as may be the case in a RC boat. So I will take a scrap part and soak it in a cup of water and will let you know what happens.

OK, I took a scrap RP 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! part and sanded off the hard shell coating on it. I figured this would speed any water saturation that is going to happen. I then soaked the part for 24 hours in a cup of water.

Results: The part seemed fine. It still had all its original strength and it did not warp. This soaking should be worse than anything you should do to your RC boat.......unless you deep 6 it for a couple of days.

I hope this helps put you mind at ease, some what, Kevin.

Well, I have worked up a transmission to go behind the Allison. It is loosely based on an Allison industrial tranny.

I have designed the tranny so it has a tailpiece with tranny mount. This part is to be used if the modeler wants to do a conventional engine/tranny/driveshaft/rear setup.

If the modeler wants to do a rear engine setup, he can just leave the tailpiece off and the tranny will mate right up with the TDR 1/8th Scale Allison V-12.......DONE!!! 11 inch rear end.

This is going to be the setup I use to build my trike.

    Here are a few pictures.
