      Hi all,
just some progress shots of a nostalgia project I have on the bench. I wasn't going to submit it as I felt that there were too many innacuracies. However Modelmaker suggested I post it. So you can blame him! It's based on the Lindberg Luv Buggy. As a kid I built a 1/25th model of a Fiat Altered I'm not sure if it was the Revell WIP Fiat Topolino Altered Fumin Fiat or the AMT WIP Fiat Topolino Altered Double Dragster kit and I wanted to revisit those times. I know the front wheels are incorrect ( Modelmaker has offered to make some replacements in the future......thanks mate!) The engine is on carbs not injection and so on. It is a fun piece and not really meant to stand as an exact replica. I would also like to thank MIKED for his advice and scale dimensions which were very helpfull, ( I hope it doesn't disappoint you MIKED!), I still have to construct the front end, steering and complete the decalling. If anybody knows where I can get a sheet of 1/12th scale Drag decals I would be very grateful.
      Cheers
      John
P.S. Please excuse the dark background. I had to show Modelmaker that my workbench was occasionally clean!

John, it would have been a shame if you didn't share the Fiat with us. It turn out great! Is the chassis made out of metal?

Thanks guys for the kind comments.
The main piece of metal in the car is the bridging piece between the nose and the rest of the car and is aluminium lithographic plate. It works beautifully when hand folded and formed because it is so soft. The other small bits of lith. plate form the ridges of the blower which is mainly made from automotive body filler cast in a rough mould and then hand finished. Yes Sean the wheels weren't wide enough and being plastic were easily widened with sheet styrene WIP Fiat Topolino Altered . The chassis is part kit and part scratchbuilt out of styrene WIP Fiat Topolino Altered tube as is the roll cage. I must admit doing the research for the project has been great. Talk about take you back! I had a fascination for dragsters in my early High School years and seeing some of the photo's on the net really brought back memories of the Drag scene in the U.S. in the middle sixties. The Fiat Topolino as a Dragster is , for me , an American design classic.
I will send some more photo's when it's finished.
    Cheers
    John

I always did love the Topolino style dragsters. They were very popular subjects to model in the early 60's.
