I am really excited about this body and with the help of Dan P. and Tim it looks like it's going to be on our workbenches in the not so distant future. We've got some other things to finish up but the Merc is going take a bit of head scratching anyway to make it a reality. Tim, as you know this is a large body and we'll have to break it down into assemblies that will fit our working window and it has more compound curves than a belly dancer.

Guys, before the chat turns to chopped tops....let me answer that question....not now!
It's a whole heck of a lot easier to chop a stocker than it is to put it back to it's original configuration....customize or hammer it suit yourselves, after all that's what modeling is all about. There have been a lot of folks say "sure wish R/M or someone would do it".
Well....your friends here at SMC say "sure we can!".

When the Mercury body is ready for production, I would love to buy 1, as it could be customized in a number of ways:-

    1) A candy colour with a white interior

    2) Matt Sand 1/8th Mercury sedan with camoflague flames.

    3) Mint Green with White scallops on hood, side and roof.

    4) Purple Metallic 1/8th Mercury sedan with a Purple and White interior.

Just another thought couldn't the body have frenched aerials, headlights and tail lights.

That's a bunch of great ideas,Rob. I like the candy color with the white interior the best. The sand 1/8th Mercury sedan with the camo flames would be a wild looking custom.

  4. Indeed!

Given the time we will be nurturing this project all suggestions should be most welcome.
I have been seriously thinking about creating a second model, a variation really based on the 50 model year. Its tall rear fenders/taillights would be more suitable to customize, don't you think?
I could model it with frenched headlights too, as it would be easier than do it later in the real model. And maybe create a 55 Poncho front bumper present in more than one custom version.

Sounds interesting Dan. Post up any and all pics of your customized versions, they serve as a really good source of inspiration for us all.

Rob we are going to keep the Merc pretty close to it's stock configuration to start with. That way it can be built in many different ways. We will however look at doing some trans kits for it.
I was talking with MF the other evening, we phone each other from time to time for a reality check. We discussed things like a floor pan with cast in frame rails, interior panels, separate hood etc. The basic kit might even include some resin 1/8th Mercury sedan pieces for things like door jambs for you guys that want to open up the doors. Many of the parts will be scratch built 1/8th Mercury sedan once the basic shell is on it's way to production.
