It's HEMI TIME!

Gang, as you know there are lot's of 392's and even a 426 or two out there, blowers and bells, whistles...oh my! The problem has been masters that missed the mark, so, so castings, vague detail and lacking all those pulleys, alternators etc. that we all have to go scrounge or fabricate.

We will start with a basic street 426, factory 2-4 barrel intake, water pump, alternator, distributor, power steering pump, carbs, starter, pulleys and oil filter.

Best of all......a transmission, probably a Torqueflite, not sure yet.

Pretty much a complete engine and transmission.

While the basic engine is on it's journey to production....we'll be adding plug and play accessory kits that WILL FIT our Hemi (intakes, injectors, wish list stuff).

Here is a picture of what we are starting with. This is a Hemi I modeled about 2 1/2 years ago. My modeling abilities have improved a little since then, so I am going to remodel a bunch of pieces to improve the level of detail and take it back to it's stock configuration. I will try and include alignment pins/holes were ever I can.

This one is going to take a little longer than the others because of the redo work, but it should be worth it to have a truely glue-n-plug resin 426 Hemi model that is complete from fan blade to rear tranny seal.

I can't wait for this one to become a reality. A Hemi of any flavor will be a welcome addition. The 426 will definately go along with the "there's no replacement for displacement" school of hot 426 rodding. I still hope to see the 392 come out with the SMC level of quality and detail though.

Slyy, the 426 is going though it's development stages now, it will be a fairly complete mildly modified stock street engine. Factory type (street) in-line 2-4 barrel intake. It will be similar to what was actually under the hood when the ground pounders ruled the streets.
There is a method to our madness.....we figure that if we start with a basically stock very well detailed base unit it will give us a platform to add trans-kits to that will fit our engine without a lot of modification. For example: If you already had one of our Base engines but wanted a tunnel ram instead of the in-line.......simple, just purchase the intake.....you would already have the 2 four barrels and best of all everything would fit our block and other parts.
Same for blowers, injectors etc.
What could be better? Just glue, paint, add some of your own favorite detailing tricks and you're off to the races.
As trans-kits are added you may be able to order your engine with just the options you want, we'll see.

Don, is this plan for the 392 as well? I would like both to come to light, but the smaller hemi is in mind for a future build.
Thanks, Greg.

That's a great idea Don. that's on the level of the old parts packs for the Big Deuce Ponchos back in the 60's. A good assortment of trans kits will is just what we'll need.

Hey guys.

Just wanted to give you an update on the Hemi.

I am remodeling portions of the engine because I was not happy with the technique I used in the one shown at the top of this thread.

I got the block remodeled last night. I will add all the fillets and rounds at the end of the modeling process so don't be concerned with the "blockyness" of some parts of the block. It will have nice smooth corners before it goes off to be prototyped.

Take a look at it, compare it to some of your reference pictures and if you see something that is not right SPEAK UP now........or for ever hold your peace....

Your help in getting the accuracy of the computer model right keeps me modeling other parts and not looking stuff up on Google.

Thanks

Hey, guys let's have a little fun and help Tim out, think about it....if he's Googlin' info he's not able to work on the model, I grabbed one of those 1/6th metal blocks and did a
eyeball scan between Tim's model and the one I was holding in my hand. The only difference I could spot was Tim's model has 3 casting 426 plugs on the left side....only two on the metal block..........you guys wanted a "correct" 426 and we'll do the best we can, so like Tim said...check it out and speak up 'cause we're only going to do it once.

Yes, I saw that the 1/6th models only have 2 freeze plugs on the left side too. If you look inside the block though, you will see the slight deformation in the surface. I think the model company removed the 3rd freeze plug because the starter is going to cover it up anyway.

They had to have a freeze plug there though, in the real block, because they have to get the sand 426 out of the block when it is cast at the foundry. So I took my best educated guess and included it using the deformations on the inside of the block as a guide.

Mock up block of an original 426. Gives some good clues for a model block and the way it could be cast.

I've been to Scale Models by Chris in Garden City. He moved a few months ago but I'm sure he still has the same inventory maybe more. The last time I went, there were 2 or 3 people in the back working on models.

I've seen stuff that Chris has put out. It's really quality work and good product. He also is one heck of a great model builder. I've seen his work on SA and I drool every time I see it.
