Ok, I am starting an new thread on the Quad Al project , on the recommendation of Don, since I really messed up the last one when it came to picture posting.
I am not particularly gifted when it comes to model building, I have not built a model car since I was about 13 years old, when my cousin demolished a 1926 Mack truck that took me about 2 months to build. I had it finished for less than a week when she got a hold of it. I swore then I would never build another………now fast forward 32 years……… maybe it is time to get back into model building.
Anyway, I am going to use this post to show the WIP
of the Quad Al. I know I am going to need a lot of help along the way so don’t be afraid to kick me in the head and let me know there is a better/easier way of doing things. I always kind of "brute force" my way through things......and that aint always the best way
So Don, feel free to delete the old post “Quad-Al WIP
”
Well here are some pics of what I am shooting for. I am not planning to do an exact duplicate of the original. I want to refine it a little.
One thing I want to do is refine the driver area a little. I want to adopt a configuration that is more similar to that of the old slingshot dragsters. I want to use bent round tubing instead of the mitered square tubing that is shown in the picture. So if anyone has any good closeup pics of driver seat area of an old slingshot dragster I sure could use them, either model or real it does not matter.
Another thing I am going to change is the offset you see between the front engine pairs and the back engine pairs. The original builder did this because this would allow the throttle linkages to lineup between the opposing engines......
....... there aint no way I would drive a 4 wheel drive, 8000 horsepower, dragster that has the center of gravity set over and not on the centerline.......just to make the throttle linkages lineup. I think I could find a better way and that is how I will build the model.
The other thing I am changing is how the output of the two engines is combined and fed to the differentials. I am going to bring them together imediately and then take the output through 1 transmission. I will have to see how it is going to work with the body though.
