The chassis. Setting the Frankendeuce body onto the chassis was actually a lark. The Celebration Deuce will be the one with the Carson top. The rear fenders will be bobbed and will be cut to make room for the slicks, the doors will have hidden hinges and I think I'll put on some nice cycle fenders on the front. I was toying with some Kelsey Hayes wheels since I have the wires from a Jag kit. Since I don't have to have it completely done for November, I want to put in the rumble seat and a surprise dash board. That means I haven't figured out which one I want yet. I want this to be a real work of art.

A detailed to the max rolling chassis with your Olds would make a great display model by itself.

That's not a bad idea. I could concentrate on the running gear and use that for my entry. Thanks for the idea. Now I know what direction I need to go in.

HFC. How are you making the carson top for your deuce?

Hey Rob. The Carson top is going to be relatively easy. If you look at the last couple of pictures I posted with the roadster body, you can see pretty much what I had to do to start. I took the kit top and sectioned it. I did this by trial and error by tacking up the windshield frame and cutting sections out of the top until it sat perfectly. I then plastic welded the two remaining parts together. Nest, I'm going to use melted styrene rod to even out the weld line and clean up all the edges. From there, it's just a matter of cutting pieces of padding and vinyl and getting them straight and tight. I've seen this done in how to books for real 1:1 Carson tops. The builders either made the top out of correctly shaped sheet metal or they used a rigid metal frame and some kind of covering. The top could either be removed like a Trans Am T top or fastened in place like a coupe top. I still don't know whether I'm going to try and make roll up windows or make fold down flaps like some of the rods had. It preserves that convertible look.

Sounds like you did all your home work Jeff. It's going to look great, I'd put a bunch of smileys here but mine aren't working right now. As for the windows, I think the roll up windows would give it more of a contemporary hod rod look whereas the side curtains would look retro rod. I can't decide.

Thanks Don. I'm going for a more retro look. I wanted to make it like they were in either the late 50's or the early sixties but whatever comes out I'll be happy with it. Half the time when I make a modification, I have no idea of the period it was in. If you see something out of whack, let me know. I may not be able to correct it but at least I'll know for the next one. I just want this one loaded with as much detail as I can get.

I found this picture and did a little recoloring with Photoshop. I don't remember where I found the pic but it's pretty much what my celebration deuce will look like without the top when it's done. The color I'm using will be Sherwood Green with a thin coating of Kandy Kobalt Blue to tone down the yello in the Sherwood. It produces a very deep green similar to what you see.
