Just finished up all four injection bases and velocity stacks.








Next to sort out the fuel manifolds and fuel connections.

Got some time to work on the fuel manifolds and fuel line connections. The manifold required the milling of 10 1/16" holes for the connections.


Here are the basic turnings of the individual parts for the fuel line connections. I used 3/32" square and hex bar stock. The double ended hex bar will have one end inserted into the square and soldered. The aluminum sleeves are to represent the swagges on the fuel lines.



Here all the soldered parts are test fitted on the first engine.



Now to turn parts for the next three engines as time permits.

Ken, do you use that liquid solder for parts that small? Looks great

Rat23 I use the 1/32" Staybrite solder and Flux with a 40 watt solder iron for these small parts. The double end hex part was inserted into a through hole in the square part and then soldered from the backside and then filed flat.

This is a fantastic build Ken, I am drawn by the subject matter and the scratch built nature of the project, will be watching intently.

Ramstad, thanks it is a great subject. Here is a test fit of the fuel lines using 22 gauge copper wire with the copper core pulled out of the black vinyl coating then pressed on the fittings. I also fabricated the fuel fitting on top of the manifold for the hard fuel line from the fuel pump.

I moved on to turning fittings only to run out of 3/32" hex bar. Went to reorder only to find out the supplier I have used for years has been restructured and no longer carrying hex bar and also raised their minimum order from $20 to $100 in one move with no notice. WOW. I found a supplier in Germany but they do not sell to U.S. customers, but a friend has an import business with them as a customer so he will add my order to his. Just do not know when I will get the Hex bar I need. Given that I studied what to do next, I have enough fitting for one more engine. As I studied photos I realized that my first set of fuel pumps under the distributors were made too small, so I rebuilt them completely to what I felt was a better size now that I have other components to compare to. I milled location holes for the manifolds and glued them in place in order to start the hard fuel feed lines from the pumps to the manifolds. Following the only top view closeup photo these are the results as best I can sort out for now. I hand made the hex fittings filing round bar stock to form the bent fittings and blue connections. The line is formed 1/16" aluminum tube which I think works well at this scale.







Next I will add the fuel lines to the second engine. Then I may breakdown the engines and build parts and revise the rear engine mount now that I have a better image of it. I may also paint all the resin parts will they are apart. The good thing about scratch building is that you kind of go in directions the build dictates, and I will be waiting for the hex bar to arrive.

My order from Sherline arrived and I setup my rotary table to mill the holes for the 1mm bolts in the front plate of the fuel pump. I love my new toy, nothing like having the right tool for the job at hand.

I was not satisfied with the first fuel pumps size once I had other components to compare them with so I made new ones more in scale being a little larger than the first ones. Sometimes things just don't look right and have to be fixed. I also got a great detailed photo of them from the original builder of the car.




I added the linkage between engines with a slip fit 1/16" tube and fabricated the lever arm for it.



I turned the four oil filler caps. I made them solid thinking that if the caps were separate they would get lost down the road.



I added the fuel lines to the second engine. I need more 3/32" hex bar to finish the rest.


Here is an overview of where I am at so far.



I will duplicate as many parts for the other bank of engines before breaking them apart for painting of parts.

My rotary table from Sherline arrived and used it right away to make the front plate and mill holes for the 1 mm bolts that were soldered into the holes. I was also not happy with the size of the first set of pumps so I made two more slightly larger and better looking in scale when compered to other components. It also helped getting a great detailed photo from the original builder of the car.


Here it is in with fittings in place.


I added the connecting rod with lever for the linkage.


This shows the fuel lines in place on the second engine.


I turned the four oil filler necks and caps.


Here is an overview of where I am at on the left bank of engines.


Now to duplicate the components I can for the right bank until my hex bar order arrives.

Still waiting for the hex bar order to come so I moved on to milling and drilling the distributors for the spark plug wires. The main body is polished aluminum with a black bottom band and the brownish top. Then started the wingnuts for the valve cutters. I decided to use threaded rod since I could not get a consistent cut on rod for the 00-90 threads. Each wing nut needs 5 individual parts.













Now to finish up the balance of the wing nuts needed.

Model A Model Here you go the one on the lower left is the completed one while the ones on the right are ready to receive the tapered tubes on the bent rod. As for small these are big compared to the smallest I have used which are 0000-160 , now these are getting small.

Still waiting for my hex bar and bolts to show up. Moved on to making the engine connector shields. Here is the first one completed with one more to go.





I also sent a CAD file off to order CNC cut wheels from Dancing Bear Components. Here are his 3D images of the front and rear wheels that I will get.

The wheels will have a stepped split joint so they can be assembled to the tires.

My build time has been slowed down due to care giving for my wife who has been diagnosed with breast cancer; has had one surgery with a second surgery planned along with radiation and chemo. So I will be working and posting as time allows.
