Does anybody know the best way to dechrome the goldplating of the Golden T?

I have had in bleach Dechroming goldplating Ford T Streetrod for already a couple of hours, but nothing happens so far.

Purple Super Clean... Comes in a one gallon jug that you can get at a car parts store... Works great! In some cases, it will strip the chrome or gold plating off in less than a minute and it won't harm the plastic... I'd let the parts soak for a couple of hours and check and see if they cleaned up 100%

Thanks, but what is that stuff?

I am from Europe, so I need to find a equivalent. Is it some kind of bleach Dechroming goldplating Ford T Streetrod or oven-cleaner or...

Normal bleach Dechroming goldplating Ford T Streetrod tends to do the job in less than a minute too, but for some reason, this plating is Ford-tough ;)

if you can get "Oven Off" oven cleaner over there, try it. put the parts in a plastic baggie, spray the contents with Oven Off and let them fume for a few hours. works great!

    Hello Olijnsma,

you might also try automotive brake fluid. Can be reused, after straining it, so it's not that harmful to nature.

    Cheers

We don't have that particular brand, but we use Mr. Muscle over here, works very well on paint, never used it with plating though. I put the parts in and we'll see tomorrow what it brings.
I dont use a plastic bag though, I use a plastic container. I find that more cleaner working and less messier to deal with.

    olijnsma,
any lye based cleaner or lye crystals mixed in water should do the trick.

Use special 'clear'-glue from the modellingsector. I do know some people use white-glue like wood-glue, but I heard different opinions about it.

I always use Humbrol Krystal-Klear. Works like a charm and leaves no trace. But don't forget it is a weak glue, by far not as strong as bonding-glue
