A while back I saw a thread where someone was asking about a Moon gas tank. As a challenge, I thought I'd see how easy it would be to make one. I made this one in about 4 hours yesterday, from design to finish. After researching on the Moon website, I drew the pattern on the computer and then printed it out on label paper. I stuck the labels to some .080 sheet and then cut out the pieces with a nibbler. I made the tank portion from 22 individual .080 discs that were laminated together. The discs were scribed into .080 sheet using a compass. Then it was easy to cut them out using some heavy duty scissors. If you have some PVC pipe in the correct diameter, you could save a lot of time here. The end caps are dog dish hubcaps from the parts box. The gas cap is a knock-off hub cap from the Lindberg T kit. Decal Parts box Moon gas tank is from the parts box. Hardware is 0-80 Parts box Moon gas tank drilled out with a 1/16" bit and slid over 1/16" aluminum tube. I really needed to spend more time sanding Parts box Moon gas tank , but I wanted to get it done. You can see the lines where the discs are joined.

One of my long term goals is to make a Mooneyes inspired dragster from the Exterminator kit (with front-mounted supercharger). This tank would look nice in that.

Hey Steve. Glad to see you here again. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the tank was the real thing. That's beautiful. I can smell the fuel from here.

I had that same idea of building the Mooneyes dragster by using the Lindberg Exterminator kit... Right now, I'm having a tough time finding some good close-up pictures of the real one....

    Check out Dave Lindsay's site...

I don't think you'll find any better pictures (online) of the Mooneyes.

I ordered the Revell Parts box Moon gas tank 1/25 Attempt 1 off eBay because it uses the same dragmaster frame. Hopefully it will be of some help.

Good luck...maybe we can compare notes.

Thank you Steve! I did manage to find some more pictures on the net.. I'll post those in a few! There's also a few that were posted on the H.A.M.B. that I'm borrowing from..... I don't think they'll mind... I'll try and hit them up for more pictures if they have them and let them know what we're up to..

    Tank looks fab Steve.....spot on.
I ordered a Lindy dragster a while back for a future project, I have no idea when I'll be able to get to it though.

Your front blower set-up should morph into a killer build.
I considered going with a 392 front blower on mine but decided to opt for TDR Parts box Moon gas tank 's Allison & 11'' rear instead.

Stay in touch.......we may be able to help each other out.
When I get a chance I'll slide in a pic of the resin Parts box Moon gas tank monster pie crust slicks M.F. sent me.
