        Now that my 32 Roadster is finished I thought that I would try something different. Christie " The backbone of America's fire fighters prior to World War I, the CHRISTIE was in service in most major cities across the country. The CHRISTIE was actually a modernization of the turn-of-the-century horse drawn steam pumpers using a front-wheel-drive tractor designed by Walter Christie. Best known as a race car designer and the "Father" of front wheel drive technology. Christie's design extended the useful life of the colorful steam units well into the gasoline-engine era. The Christie was designed from an actual vehicle restored by the Community Fire Company No. 1 of Wayne, New Jersey".
        The model by MPC CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine , is in 1/12 scale and 19" long. The fit is excellent with very little flash CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine . A good model to practice your painting skill. This model doesn't leave much to scratch build CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine which is something that I enjoy the most but I was able to rebuild the lever on the fire door and replace the springs on the bottom blow relief valves.

      It's coming together, literally. CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine-p1030304-jpgCHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine-p1030298-jpgCHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine-p1030297-jpg I added a flame arrester to the stack and Pocher gage face for the steam gages, I copied the Pocher decals to file then printed them out on peel n stick paper. It gives them a little more heft. If you look closely you can see the odometer reading. Waiting for the paint to dry on the parts for the two cylinder, reciprocating steam pump. This project is moving along well. What little flash CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine there is cleans up with little effort. I thought there would be more time to think about the next project. If I use creative visualization to soon I end up with a model that I want to build but will never get to. Spontaneity works better for me. It is just that the wait drives me crazy.

      Nice work. Will there be pin striping and fire department decals on it? Just curious as to what the real thing weighs in at. I would imagine quite heavy even though it's not large by today's standards.

      The 1:12 scale (18" long) Christie is finished . The biggest problem I had was with the three bottles of Model Master Fire Red Enamel CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine paint. I purchased them at different times and did not mix them all together prior to painting. You guessed it, three different shades of red. The first decal CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine I applied did not go well and with the number of decals to be applied I felt it prudent to leave them off. The model has some weight to it and will flex when moving it around during construction. Therefor I recommend Epoxy CHRISTIE, American Steam Fire Engine at key points. This is really a nice model and I am capable of better more detailed work. I think the picture of me with the hammer says it all "Hammer Mechanic".

      I purchased a 1:8 Sopwith Camel for my next build. It will be fun working with wood again and will be built with a higher degree of resolve.

      I was reading that the Christie tractor is a two heeled unit that couples to the Ahrens Fox Pumper Unit. Maybe the Pumper unit from this kit has possibilities with being converted back to a horse drawn fire engine? Has any reader looked into this?
