G`day guys
I`ve just spent hours reading the boards here and i have to say you are some damned talented folks!
I hope this is the right section for this.
I`m a metal burner (welder/motor body builder) by trade and like to play with metal in my free time too. I`ve built and modified cars and bikes over the years and last year i did a scale landrover, its what i like to think of as stand off scale (stand way off and it looks scale lol). Its all hand formed .8mm colour-bond steel.....
Heres a couple of pics, they are a little fuzzy but they are the best i could do at the time

Oh and the trailer and boat that hook up to it

I`m trying to get the information i need to do a Model T in about the same scale only this time i want to try and get it a little more precise. The landrover took about 2 1/2 months to research, design and build so this time i want to do my research properly and try to make the finished product a shrunken Model T instead of a toy landrover
OK back to reading these great boards for me
Cheers all

Thanks for the welcome guys
Still working on the plans for the next build, I`ve got a set of plans for a 60 style dragster i`ve drawn up but i was thinking of doing the model T because of the panel work (i like the metal work side of it) While my work hasnt got the level of detail i keep seeing on the models in here i enjoy it and i like the end results.
I`ve found a few other sites that have been good for the relevant dimensions but i still havent got all the information i need yet.
I wont hold the fact that you have a kiwi in your family against you rick
Cheers guys

Well i reckon i have made my decision on what to build, Don Garrets C cab T won it for me
http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/...w-project.html
I`ve got to make the decision on scale and material but i think thats what i`ll be doing.
Going to have to think hard on materials, aluminium is easier to work but harder to join, while steel is easier to join but harder to work, might have to combine, ali for the shinies and steel for the body and frame. I started a 1/5 (or so) scale motor, blower and bug catcher for a dragster project that stalled so i might use that and work my measurements from that.
Cheers

Cool...I'm just finishing up a C-cab now in 1/8th. I like the sound of 1/5th....as you've probably gathered we're quite of fond of large scale here at SMC.

I`ve just spent waaaaaay to long cruising the boards in here, the standard of the scratch builds kinda make me a little embarrassed to show anything i do.
You guys make things in small scale that look better than high dollar full scale items, and the ingenuity is incredible, whodaky`s wheels from deodorant cans are inspirational (i dont mean to pick him out alone but that was the post i just soaked up and it really sticks).
I will build my toy and hope i can produce something that is up to scratch to post here.
You guys are a real eye opener and i can only hope to create something any where near as good

Troppo....relax man. There are no experts or newbies here....we're all just modelers helping each other and having fun. You're right about having some very skilled modelers as members, but keep in mind some folks are still trying to figure out how to keep glue off their fingers. You are as welcome here with your "toys" as any other member.
Looking forward to your C-cab......

Hey Troppo, we all just muddle through.
I don't get glue on my fingers these days. But have to be real careful not to burn them. PLASTIC WELDING ROCKS.
Troppo I just do what I do. I get way more out of looking at others stuff on here than I can ever contribute!

Hey Troppo. Before I got to this site, I could barely handle filler putty G`day From Aus . After spending time here and getting the generous encouragement from this great assemblage, I was able to learn to do things I never thought I could ever do. A year from now, you'll wonder why you didn't want to show your work. Feel free to post anything you do. We don't judge here.

Well i have decided to go on with a 1/4 scale build, the scale calculator here has been a godsend.
Just trying to get anything definate is not easy, the information i have found so far is anything up to 3 inches different, so i`ve posted a few questions on a couple of hot G`day From Aus rod and car restoration forums, hopefully i`ll get some slightly more accurate info from the guys that are building the real thing.
Once i get some definitive numbers i`ll get some rough plans drawn up, i dont do precision plans though, i tend to work a lot by eye, i understand that may be fairly popular round here

Most of us work by eye.

Be aware that some folks here, do send out their eyes to have them calibrated.

When you see the work that Mario and XKen, and Whodaky do, you will see what I mean.

Enjoy the ride, put the top down and have fun. Lord knows the ride is short here.
