I've wanted to buy a mini-lathe for quite some time. Done a fair bit of research, but haven't been able to bring myself to pull the trigger... yet.

Ideally, I'd love to get the 7x16 mini-lathe from Micro Mark, but it's on the higher-end of the cost scale. From everything I've read on mini-lathe.com home page, you're far better off getting the 7x12 mini lathe. The difference between 7x10 and 7x12 in capacity is actually greater than the dimensions would suggest.

Also, I believe Grizzly sells these mini-lathes for less than Harbor Freight. And both outfits offer all sorts of accessories for these mini-lathes too, so you'll have plenty of bits and pieces to buy after your purchase.

I prefer US made lathes...the Taig is about $400 and has excellent precision. Sherline makes my favorite, but about $600.
