    Hello every one ,
being an old guy 60 plus 5 I have a good memory of the lotus 56 turbine which so nearly won at Indianapolis in 1968, does any one out there have a good set of scale drawings that they could post on the site to help me scratch build lotus 56 turbine a model of the car in approx 1/8th or 1/6th scale ?.
if so please let me know at present I build large scale sci fi models and have been lucky enough to have people buy them, but my first love has always been racing cars I need help.

regards Barrie ( the old guy )

This one - though not highly detailed might get you started.

    Thanks for the help boys,
all good stuff and will save for the model build still need some descent drawings to work from if not I guess I will have to have a go at doing my own drawings which might not be super accurate but may have to do.

    thanks Barrie

The previous post appears to be of a Lotus 7 chassis, but the 56 is also a mix of tubes and aluminum bulkheads. Fascinating car. This link is of a diecast of it and might help with fleshing out details. I imagine Tamiya lotus 56 turbine made a kit which might gove you templates in a smaller scale from which to work.

And this see through image makes it all the more intriguing.

Hi every one sorry for not keeping in touch as much as I should but I have been busy busy, here is my attempt a a large scale Lotus turbine 56 from 1968, I found some plans afer a long search on the good old internet and set about enlarging them and then set about construction all from sheet plastic, I have a long way to go yet but would like to know what you guys think. Here are some images of the car.

    Pretty nice start!

I am more familiar with the ‘67 car.

Is the “tub” on the prototype aluminum or stainless?

    Again, pretty nice work.

Thank you junk gtz and model a model,
the scale is approx 1/8th as that is the size the astronaunt figure is that is in the images the wheels are 4 and 1/2 inches in dia as for the tub on the Real car it was aluminium but my moel is all plastic sheet including the wheels, as I have a long way to go yet I will keep posting some more updates when more work has been done. Thanks guys for following the thread, yes the first stp turbine car was out of this world a brilliant idea from Andy Granatelli and his team and they so nearly won the race if not for the failure of a small bearing costing a couple of dollars.

regards Barrie ( the old guy )
