Being that I'm attempting to create an exact reproduction of an existing car, it's going to be neccessary to fabricate some of my own parts by pouring resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts parts.

I'm assuming I can sculpt the part out of a hard modelers wax, make a latex mold around the piece, cut apart the latex mold then pour the resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts .

Can anybody give any pointers on what product brands to use, and what technique works best to get me started.

I imagine it will take some practice but I've had some experience in sculpting in wax so if I cn get the right products for making the molds and pouring the resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts I should have a decent shot at it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Got a suggestion for you John. Rather than opening a new thread each time you post, put and keep everything under one topic. That way you and everyone else who is watching and helping you can follow your build under one thread.

You'll find it makes things a lot easier to follow.

Will do, sorry. I figured different specialty questions may get different audience interest that may otherwise not be interested in discussing a first build.

If a moderator wants to clean these specific questions up I'll continue posting in my first thread.

    Thanks.

Well now I'm a little embarrassed because I didn't notice the large tutorial section below which is answering many of the questions I'm asking. I was clicking on the tutorial link on the top menu bar which shows very little.

    Darn new guys...

Here is a kit for casting Creating molds and pouring resin parts resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts that has everything that you need.

    COMPLETE RESIN CASTING STARTER SET

Most times it is just easier to modify an existing part to get what you need.

Sometimes you can just make the part you need out of styrene Creating molds and pouring resin parts . It is not as difficult as it looks. Ken does it out of brass on his Model T. Since you have to make the part anyway to use as a master, why not just make the part, paint it and use it. The advantage of resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts casting Creating molds and pouring resin parts is to make multiple copies.

Don't get hung up on the details. Remember that you are just building a model and all the model has to do is look like the real thing.

I have done considerable resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts casting Creating molds and pouring resin parts and my best advice is to, go to or click on ,Smooth-On - Mold Making and Casting Materials for a World of Applications!, they have a great web site which lists all their products as well as videos showing their use. These videos are far better than any tutorial I could write. If you have any specific questions please send me a PM and I'll be glad to answer them the best I can.
Welcome to the world of " biggie" models and good luck with your build.

That's the thought i was having, why not just make the master part and use it.

I'm thinking there has to be some type of 2 part putty Creating molds and pouring resin parts that will hold fine detail and will harden and then can be finished painted and glued.

making something with complex curves would be difficult with styrene Creating molds and pouring resin parts , there has to be a hardening sculpting putty Creating molds and pouring resin parts out there.

If not, I'll try the resin Creating molds and pouring resin parts mold kits you suggested.

Thanks guys. (once I get my model delivered I can stop obsessing over the details and start fabricating)

A couple of good 2 part puttys to use for making parts is Micro-Mark's " Milliput", part # 81005 modeling putty Creating molds and pouring resin parts at Micro-Mark: The Small Tool Specialists or Aves' Apoxie Sculpt at Aves Clay & Mache. Either of these products should suit your needs, and might be available at your local hobby shop, Michael's Arts and Crafts, or Hobby Lobby store, if you have any near you.
