As Art Baker used to say.... you asked for it. I have two main work areas. The model room that was recently commissioned is where the small work happens and will evolve as fits the job at hand. It's still pretty bare but is far more than what preceded it. The other area is the garage, where cars never compete for space. Some modelling goes on out here, such as turning exhaust megaphones, but it's mostly for 1:1scale work - not that I don't think about models a lot when out in the garage.
Scorpio - Builds models the way the prototype should have been built.
Here are a few shots of what will be my 'new' workshop. I've been thinking of doing this for a while now and buying up special offers of just about anything I thought may come in handy. The loft space was a filthy dark hole so the first thing to do was install a light at the top of the ladder and then board out the area. After negotiations with my wife who also wanted storage space I settled on about 10 square metres floor space which will give me approximately 60 square feet of worktop. The pictures give an idea of the area to the right in the diagram where most of the work will be done. A carpeted area to the left will house reference books, magazines, laptop and a small display area. One of the things that I am VERY good at is dropping and loosing small parts and so I have sealed off completely between wall and floor so that there is no possibility of anything disappearing down a hole or crack (...says he!! we'll see!). This is all low budget shoe string stuff the biggest expenditure being on the flooring and an a/c unit - the worktops came from a neighbour who was throwing out an old fitted bedroom. The walls and ceiling joists are covered with a membrane used for landscaping to prevent weeds - very cheap and 50metre length rolls. Things have moved on a little since these pictures and I hope to have moved some modelling stuff in by the end of this w/e. Will post the final pictures when I get it organised.

Here's mine. When we moved into the new house 8 years ago I finished off the corner of the basement between the stairs. It's about 8x10 ft. The worst part was taking the machines apart to get them down there. The next guy will have to worry about getting them out. I have a 6 inch Atlas/Craftsman lathe, an 11 inch Logan lathe, a first generation Enco mill drill, Craftsman 12 inch bandsaw with a slow speed attachment and all kinds of assorted tooling. The shop serves as my machine shop, model building room and art studio. Just not all at the same time.

Hi G. Britnell,
Can you tell me more about the engine that is in the last picture, lower shelf, right?
All your workshops look amazing. My workshop was about finished when we decided to move. At this time I do not have a real workshop, but luckily my newborn keeps me busy... I do some simple modelling in my home office.

Most of the work is now complete and the workshop more or less operational. It all looks very tidy in these pictures but will no doubt evolve as I gradually move more bits and pieces up there (I still have to find room for about another 40 kits of various scales). In a moment I'm off out to buy an extractor fan to build a paint booth at the other end of the loft away from the main area.
