I remember reading a reader tip in Scale Auto Enthusiast (or was it Scale Modeller?) about simulating cast aluminum by primering, painting with Faux Fabrix, then shooting with a metallizer.

Just wondering if anyone here had tried this or used Faux Fabrix for interiors.

    TIA

I've used Faux Fabrix and it works o.k. I usually do my cast finish a bit different. You can do this in two ways. After I shoot on my last coat of primer Anyone ever use Faux Fabrix? , I hold the can back about 2-3 feet and spray the primer Anyone ever use Faux Fabrix? so it leaves a heavy pebbled appearance. Then I shoot some thin color coats over that. The other way I do it is to do the pebbling in the color coat. It provides a slightly different texture but it works great. To me, the Faux Fabrix paint was just a bit too coarse. A little sanding Anyone ever use Faux Fabrix? and then the color coat over that can produce a third texture.

Slightly off topic Ron because it doesn't answer your question directly but I noticed on my last visit to the local DIY store that Plasti-Kote do a range of effect sprays that may be of some use.
    Plasti-kote functional spray paint products
There are suede, velvet and stone effect sprays all of which would have to be oversprayed with desired colours but could prove useful. Personally I'm not in need of any yet but I am certainly keeping them in mind for when the need arises.

Plasti-Kote is some great stuff, Martin. I've used their paints before and I was very happy with the results. If you can't find the Plasti-Kote products, Krylon has a fairly good second alternative called Make It Suede and a few other textured products. It's a little bit grainier but it will save the day if it's the only thing you can find. I saw it at Hobby Lobby and at Michael's if you have one near you.
