Some small steps have been taken towards the full & insane restoration of the Lorch lathe...
First of all, full dismantling of the machine, which wasn't at all easy due to some very rusted elements which were stubborn to separete themselves from others...
The first 2 pics shows the operating table where you can see most of the lathe in pieces...should the owner see this, he'll have a heart attack!....
Pics 3 & 4 shows the bed and feet already polished, cleaned & rectified in some small areas, the accesories were tryied over the bed to insure correct functioning...
Pic 5 shows the threading attachment untouched, this item will need full attention after dismantling and it will be a long assignment to perform, it's complicated and I must design & make a clutch which engages the slides and is missing (Not found on Ebay yet!)
Pics 6 & 7 shows the headstock already rectified, polished & lubed in its first stage of assembly, there are some more parts to add which are being fixed...
Pic 8 shows the tailstock polished, assembled and lubed, plus a new part which was missing, that is the spindle locking devise, made in solid brass by yours truly...besides the tailstock you can see the eccentric lever device which holds the tailstock to the bed in any desired position with just a mere touch...
Pic 9 shows a closeup of the new part in place on the tailstock...
Pic 10 & 11 shows the tailstock spindle locking device in detail, which by the way is a faithful reproduction of the original Lorch one, extracted from a vintage factory catalog............
Thanks & keep tuned...
