I am looking for a 1/8th scale driver figure. Preferably in the arms out driving position and with an open helmet or no helmet at all. Thanks

The old Tamiya 1/8 scale driver figure drivers are close. 1/10 scale but they are a little over scale so maybe 1/9.

If I were to make one is that something more of you guys would be interested in?

More of "you guys" meaning us boat guys? Then yes! I am trying to get a figure for my 1/8th scale hydroplane I have a resin 1/8 scale driver figure figure but the detail is poor. I have found an appropriate open 1/8th scale helmet from minichamps but need a body to put under it before I buy it. I also need to find an oxygen mask like what is used in airplanes. Here is picture of what I have now.

You may have more luck looking into RC pilots, and then customising them. There are many scale figures available.

A silicon mold, a little plaster or hydrocal overfill, a wee bit of carving should yield satisfactory results. you can then loose the helmet, give him an appropriate sneer, etc.

Just a brain storm. (watch out for lightning)

If you look on eBay for the TV character dolls manufactured by Mego, ie; the Happy Days series, and etc. these dolls are fully articulated and stand 8 inches tall which in 1/8 scale equates to 64 inches, or 5 ft 4 inches. These are an ideal size for what you want. Williams Brothers makes all sorts of " pilot" heads in 1/6th, 1/8th, and 1/12th scale, with either vintage open face helmets with goggles, or the modern closed face helmet with face shield. These are readily available from Sig mfg. Just google Sig for the web site address. You might have to create a drivers style suit, but if it's for a vintage boat the Mego Fonzie doll comes with a leather style jacket and denim jeans which works very well for the old rear driver position hydros with the Allison power up front.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks guys!

I am familiar with the williams Bros pilots but was hoping to use them as a last resort. I ordered a helmet from minichamps that I will repaint and need to stick on a head. I think I will get a Head and then carve some clay, make a mold and then a resin 1/8 scale driver figure piece. I was hoping to find something already made to save some work, but I guess this just means more fun for me.

It is possible to use a hand-held 3-D laser scanner and scan your own face to produce a 3-D printed abs or acrylic 1/8 scale driver figure head.

Wow interesting thought! I am ure some kind of scanning and printing is possible, I have seen folks use a similar process for propellers, that used a kind of baking soda/ca spray mix then the prototype was cast, using an investment casting 1/8 scale driver figure process, there are 3d printers you could make for yourself, but an hp designjet costs 17K?? so is it worth it? maybe you could bring the file and have some one print it for you, then make a mold and voila...??? I use milliput putty 1/8 scale driver figure , resins, bondo, balsa, abs, evergreen etc to make my masters, then make the mold, I do not do it for a living, so I do not think I could get my 17G's back LOL..

    but a very interesting idea

Hi, I have been buying these tamiya 1/8 scale driver figure scale heads, from a guy called James. He is a member of tamiyaclub. goes under the name of beetlelover. I painted this one, so not a true representation of how good they are. They have amazing details. They are quite a bit bigger than 1/10 scale Imho.

Wow, I needed to find a 1/12th scale motorcycle rider's helmet (1950's half-sphere type) with goggles and I found this old thread, which lead me to ordering a pilot's torso by Williams Brothers...all for less than $7 that includes shipping!
