This is an actual document from Ford, circa 1928.
These old ads, prices and stuff are great but when you put everything in perspective....were the good ol' days really that great? I can still remember buying a brand spanking new Hemi Road Runner for less than a new base cookie cutter Kia at todays prices. At the time you had a choice of color and equipment and waited for the car to be built and delivered.
I ordered mine with gears, 4-speed, limited slip and all the go fast goodies...no air, radio or frills. I was kind of into the sleeper thing so it had dog dish hub caps and a bench seat taxi cab interior. Color? You might be thinking Hemi orange, Plum Crazy, or maybe Sublime Green.
Nope, black with a tan interior.
It wouldn't turn corners without biting your lip and mumbling a short prayer, stopping it from any kind of speed was an E ticket ride in itself. It came with no factory warranty on the engine or drive train...the guys in Detroit knew where this car was going to live.
Now bear in mind that although this car had no peer on the street in a straight line it took just about all my 60 dollar a week paycheck to to make the payments, keep it in tune and gas which was less than a buck a gallon. Then factor in the 50 cent burgers to uphold my bad boy image with the sweeties....dude it was a struggle.
So were they really the good ol' days....YOU BET!!!!!!! I'd trash this 'PUTER and go back in a heartbeat.
Grandpa McGurk.....Steppin' Large and Livin' easy.
