I have been working hard at getting the shop organized and cleaned up as well as ordering a few parts and scratchbuilding supplies. That, along with the nicer weather means I should be building soon. Let me tell you - I can't wait.
Those of you that have seen my bench before will understand more of what I'm about to say but I promise I will post some pictures soon so all will understand.
One thing that bugged me for a long time was not having my Evergreen stock organized. I've always thought that scratchbuilding becomes easier if you have the basic shapes readily available (and not have to run to the LHS). To help this I found some 15" long Rubbermaid kitchen organizers online (to hold the 14" Evergreen pcs) and made a "cabinet" for up to 45 different shapes or sizes. The organizers were pretty cheap (less than 2 bucks per) so it worked out really nice.
I also wanted to do better at organizing individual projects so I dedicated most of the left side of the bench for projects. It's set up with four individual "bays" (for four projects). Each bay has it's own 4 drawer mini-cabinet for small parts and a larger area on the table for parts in progress. A 4" rail separtes each bay and a cardboard cover over each protects the parts from dust.
I also was able to dedicate a section at the end of one of the legs of my "U" shaped bench as a photo "studio", complete with lighting. So when I need to take a picture I just roll over, snap, shoot, log and done.
Pictures soon will tell the story.
Like I said, I am so looking forward to building.
Steve
